It's my way of keeping a digital scrapbook of all of our pictures and stories. At the end of the year, I make it into a paper book through blurb.com and we call it our family yearbook. :-) I don't do it for anyone else but me, but it's public for anyone that cares to look at it. My parents and in-laws read it, as well as some other friends that like to keep up with what we are up to.

this, except for the part about making a book.
I have a memoir blog.
Also: I've been trying to be a novelist for as long as I can remember - so I have my memoir blog and my book review blog to hone those skills. I also contribute to the Natural Parents Network for the same reason. (And because I enjoy it.)
But I NEVER force myself to write on either blog (I do force for the NPN because I've made a commitment and there are deadlines.) If I'm not enjoying it, I'm not going to force it.

mostly so I remember things. My mom always told me that I used to say thefunniest things, but she could never remember. I didn't want that to happen. Then I started writing to get things off my chest, and people read it. I would get positive feedback or people feeling the same way, relating, telling me it felt good to not feel alone. I don't blog FOR other people, but that kind of feed back is nice.

I do it to keep family and friends updated with pictures and stories about the kids and as a baby book for myself (every 6 months I publish a blurb book).

Exactly this. I post a lot more photos in the book than I do on the blog (especially when we have professional pics done). As such I have to print a blurb book every 6 months, since otherwise a whole year won't fit in their page limit.
I have most of my family members in various places throughout the US and the world. My brother used to send mass emails of his daughter to a select group of people, but I wasn't on that list, so I always had to rely on my dad to forward them... and there were often issues with the photo size not downloading or missing attachments, etc. Anyway, it was a pain and I wanted an easier way for everyone to get to see photos of the baby and hear stories about what we're up to. I included the blog address in our Christmas cards and I'm surprised at how many of our family and friends tell me they follow it regularly.
So that's my motivation- keeping everyone updated who can't be here to see our new baby. It helps that they tell me they follow the blog, though! And I'm not interested in making it into a book- I do my own scrapbooking, so I'll probably just use it as a reference when I'm scrapbooking the baby album and our family album.

Basically this is why I do it as well, though I think that the only people that read the blog are my parents and MIL. I haven't made a blurb book yet, but I plan to!
I needed some sort of release with all the stress and stuff going on in my life. I tend to hold things in when I get really busy and since hubby and I have opposite schedules, we don't always get to have serious talks every night. I use it as an outlet...hopefully I'm not too whiny, but it helps me to write out how I'm feeling and feel like I've told people, even if I'm really the only one reading it.
