For those of you with cats who sleep on your bed. Where are they going to sleep after LO arrives?
DH and I were discussing this today and we will either lock him up in the utility room overnight which is where his litter and food are kept, or we will just close our bedroom door and have him roam the house freely. However, we are afraid that if we have him roam the house freely that he will probably end up pawing at our door at some point in the night.
Both options make me sad ....I love cuddling with my little bunny rabbit at night. We just know that its the best thing for LO since she will be sleeping in our room the first couple of months and we wouldn't want to risk having the cat smother the baby in the middle of the night.
Re: s/o Cats
yeah this is an issue, i think we'll probably end up just shutting the door but it makes me sad. our little furbaby is our first experiment in "parenting." he also loves sleeping on DH. but i just would feel better if he sleeps in another room.
i keep praying that baby and cat get a long. i actually had a friend who ended up getting rid of her cat after years and years because the cat kept hissing and trying to get agressive. it was a sad thing any way you look at it. our cat is so spoiled but i keep telling myself we've created this little furry brat so i guess we'll just have to deal with him!
LO will be in our room in the FP Rock and Play for the first few weeks. So our cat can keep her spot between DH and me.
Honestly I think DH would be pretty upset if we had to keep her out of the room.
They are BFF.

The cat will probably still be in the bed. I'm guessing that the second the baby comes home she's going to be hiding under the couch for...oh months..anyway though. Right now her favorite place to sleep is under the crib or in the glider so she's going to have a fun time adjusting to that as wel!
Luckily for us she's a lazy cat, so she hasn't tried to jump into the crib, pnp, or FP sleeper even though they've been set up for a few months now.

Our cats can sleep wherever they want, except for the PNP or crib, which will be occupied by the baby.
Your cat is not going to smother your baby.
I sure hope not. Although I woke up once before because he tried to smother me lol. My dog was lying in between my and DHs head (he's a small yorkie) and my cat flat out laid on my face so he could start licking the dog. It was really funny...actually. I don't think he would do anything like that with LO especially not intentionally, but you really never know.
We have 2 cats, I am definately not worried about smothering or anything like that. I am worried about my cat's furr!! lol they shed so much and love soft cushy places to lay....
our 1 cat, runs and hides with any different noise, and the other just ignores it, but they have wanted to jump into crib!! We started a month or so ago "training" the cats to not be in our room. most nights are ok, but sometimes the baby of ther 2 will whine for abut 5-15 minutes, but eventually gives up and finds a cushion or soft place for the night!!
When she was a kitten, she was uber annoying at night (kept wanting to play at 3a), so we closed our bedroom door and let her roam the house. Then, as she got older, she was less annoying at 3a, so we kept our bedroom door open, and she started sleeping on our bed for part of the night.
When I had the c section, I didn't want to risk her jumping up on me, as she was prone to do, so we closed our door again.
I would honestly start closing your door now so that she doesn't associate a closed door with the baby's arrival. We stick a washcloth in the crevice of the door so that even if she paws at the door, it doesn't cause our door to move and make noise.

I was also curious to hear what everyone is doing with their cats.
We have a 3 month old kitten and he is a PAIN at night! He always wants to be in our room and play when we're sleeping, so we've been keeping our bedroom door closed at night. Sadly he cries and meows and scratches at the door for 20-30 minutes before going somewhere else in the appartment. I don't mind the meowing so much (I'm the heartless one... :P) but DH gets SOOOO upset and cannot stand to hear the kitty crying.
We've been putting him out halfway through the night now, and I think in a few weeks he'll be fine being out the whole night. He gets sooo playful and aggressive sometimes and we're going to be co-sleeping with LO and don't want the kitty to jump on the baby.
I'm more worried about the cat trying to sleep in the bassinett with a 4lb baby, and then attacking LO's feet when they start moving, trying to play.
Until you know how animals and babies get along, if they are in the same room, they should be supervised. It's hard to supervise a baby and a cat when I'm asleep.
