Poll: What did/does your baby's night sleep look like at 3-4 months?

So, I don't know if it is because I have a 3 year gap between my kids, or if it happens to everyone, but I have momnesia about most the baby stuff!

Trevor has colic, which is getting much much better,  thank goodness! However, he is still getting up anywhere between 1-4 times in the night to eat. I feed him for the last time around 7-8 and he will usually wake up between 2-3 and then maybe around 5 and is up for the day at 7. Sometimes we wakes more than that but those nights may be because we are not completely past the colic yet and the nursing calms him down.

He is a bigger baby (about 17lbs), and has not started solids yet, so he may be genuinely hungry..I'm not sure. Just trying to get an idea what other babies his age are doing/did in the night sleep department. Thanks!

  • my kiddo had colic too and he was up as much as yours (and often more). solids made zero difference in his sleep, and nursing was the only way i could get any rest....

  • most kids are done with colic by 3-4 months at the latest, my little guy was pretty much miserable until almost 6 months old. colic is so nebulous, no one knows exactly why they are so miserable, and he required being held and bounced almost all the time. it sucked - hard - but he is a much happier child now (thank goodness!) and i figure i am going to be waaay better prepared when we have another child. although i will say my husband and i both agree we deserve an easier second child ;-)

  • Most nights Tate eats around 8:30/9, and then is down until between 6-7 in the morning.  I feed him every 2.5 hours during the day.

  • Sophie has pretty much been a once a night waker since about 2 mos old.  She still wakes us up sometimes but since she goes back to sleep right after she eats, I don't complain too much.  No idea how I got 2 good sleepers... I thank God every single day!  Of course, they find other ways to torture me instead :-)

  • ha, I have momnesia too!  I can't remember a damn thing!  Kellen will be 3 mos this week and right now we feed him and put him down at 730pm and he typically wakes some time about 2-3am and then usually again at 5am (no matter what time that middle of the night feeding was).  I've gotten a few nights lately where he has slept all the way through until 4 or 5am though, so I think we're "rounding the corner".  Both of my older boys always woke at 5am to nurse, so evidently 5am is just gonna be a time for this one too.  I'm sorry to hear about the colic, hang in there momma!

Thanks for posting this! Kellen is a month younger than Trevor, I think, but to see that he wakes at 2-3 and 5 as well gives me hope that we are getting past the colic. It seems like T is behaving more like a "normal" baby his age/size.

  • By that age, DS was waking up around 1-2 am to eat, which wasn't working since I had started back to work.  We would do a dream feed around 11 pm and it pretty much eliminated his middle of the night feeding. So he would eat at 7:30 pm, 11 pm and then wake up 6 am or something like that. We stuck with that routine until 7 months or so. Maybe try a dream feed and see if it shifts that longer stretch.

  • I'm sorry you're having trouble with colic. I really hope it gets better soon. It hasn't even been that long since my first but momnesia has me forgetting everything. Parker is almost 3 months now and I feed him at 8 and he'll go to sleep until 11 when I typically wake him enough to eat again then put him back to bed and he sleeps until 8 or 9am. If I don't do that 11pm feeding, he's up about 3am for a feeding.
