Pregnant after 35

CVS yesterday

Good morning, ladies.  I have a question that I hope some of you all can answer.  I am 33 years old, pregnant with my first baby (after 2 long years of unexplained infertility).  I had a normal NT scan last week, but my bloodwork came back with a 1 in 120 risk of Down Syndrome and a 1in 43 risk of Trisomy 18.  When I met with the genetic counselor yesterday, she told me about my Trisomy 18 risk (my OB only mentioned the Down Syndrome risk when he called with my results).  The Trisomy 18 risk terrifies me, as I am a pediatric RN who has actually cared for a baby with this syndrome.  It has a horrible prognosis. For this reason, I opted to have a CVS.  I do not want to be blindsided at birth or later in this pregnancy if my child has this.

I realize that my baby is more than likely ok, but I was wondering if any of you ladies had a similar experience?  I will get the preliminary results on Monday--it cannot get here soon enough.

TTC #1 since 02/09 Dx: Unexplained infertility After a hysteroscopy and D&C in 4/10, 3 rounds of Clomid (and one round of Femara for good measure), and acupuncture for 5 months, I got my first BFP after my first round of IUI with Femara and injectables. I am blessed. Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

Re: CVS yesterday

  • I haven't gotten my bloodwork results back yet, but I am a pediatric NP as well and just wanted to let you know I would have opted for the CVS too.  I hope everything looks perfect on Monday- I'll be thinking about you.

  • My results were 1:5 for Downs and 1:170 for Trisomy.  I also opted for the CVS. My results came back normal. But waiting for the first, and second, results was so difficult.  I am sending you lots of good thoughts for the waiting and the results.
