1st Trimester

8.5 weeks and cant get a good sleep!

Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem and what you may be doing about it.....I toss and turn all night and just cant get comfortable. If i sleep on my back i am extremely nauseous in the morning...but if i lay on my belly it gets sore like a pulled muscle kind of sore...and on my side which is how i have always slept i get crampy in my pelvic area and in my lower back...I just need a good night sleep!

  • I was having the same problem...my Dr. said I could take a sleep aid like Tylenol PM, but I just stuck it out. Sleeping a little better now.

If you are getting cramps by sleeping on your side, you may need to get a pregnancy pillow which should support your tummy and back while you sleep. (or just prop a pillow in front of you)

    Good Luck!

  • Unfortunately it goes downhill from here :( The next few years are going to be sleep deprived. Try getting a body pillow? You're eventually going to have to sleep on your back prmanently, and they help a lot.

  • I second the tylenol PM or Unisom. Also invest in a preggie pillow (I think that is the name) ASAP! I love mine! Dang dog went a peed on the thing since my last pregnancy so I need a new one stat!

  • I am about 6 weeks along and I have had the same problem for the last 3 days. My doctor told me that you never want to take Tylenol PM or Unisom. I have been taking Benadryl Allergy which gets me about 6 hours of good sleep but its not something that you want to take every night. Also having the room really cold and a body pillow and my fiance on the other side help at night too.

  • Surround yourself with pillows while you sleep....may push husband or boyfriend off of bed...but ohh so comfortable. for most of my first pregnancy I had a pillow under my head one to put my arm on, one between my legs as I sleep on my side and one slightly under the side I was laying on.. my husband was very happy when I was not pregnant no more.. as I went down to two pillows haha. If that dont work try taking two tylenol half hour before you go to bed.

I thought you were not ever supposed to sleep on your back after 4 months?  Doesn't that cause the weight of the baby to obstruct the major blood vessels?
