XP: First U/S - Holy Crap!

I had my first ultrasound yesterday, and we saw what could be expected at this point - the yolk sac, fetal pole, and a heartbeat. All was great until the ultrasound tech said "And I think I see a second heartbeat right there!". WHAT?!! Thank goodness I was laying down. I guess my expression must have been priceless because H and my mom just burst out laughing.

Don't get me wrong, I am very happy, but this is so overwhelming. Mainly I'm concerned about finances. One baby is expensive enough, but two? Last night I was completely freaking out, but H is beyond thrilled. His dad is a twin, so he was hoping to have twins. We've been going back and forth between if we want one or two children (mostly related to finances and wanting to be able to pay for college, go on vacations, etc.), so I guess now we would get two in one shot. At least I will only have to give birth once!

The u/s tech said that it's still very early, so I'll have to go back soon for another u/s. I wonder if they'll want to do one at my initial appointment on Tuesday. Of course, now that she said she saw two heartbeats I'll be sad if there's only one, regardless of how overwhelming two seems right now.

Thanks everyone! The more I think about it, the more excited I get. Yesterday all I could think of was the various obstacles and difficulties we would face, but today I keep thinking of the good parts, like how close twins usually are. I just hope that everything goes well and that at my next appointment we'll see two strong, healthy heartbeats again.
