I'll RP this during the day, I'm just curious now. Boys are 7 months today, eating 1 solid meal a day, and still nursing 6 times a day. Sometimes 7 if they are fussy before their morning nap.
That is 12-14 nursing sessions a day, and I'd like to know if there is any reduction in sight. I'm exhausted.
Re: When will they drop a nursing session?
I don't completely remember when they started dropping sessions, but I'm sure it was by 9 months. As soon as they were eating 2-3 meals a day they nursed a little less, and our lives got busier so they were less focused on nursing. They still nurse 4 times a day, but it is not for long so it doesn't feel like much effort.
I'm sorry you're exhausted by it! When you say 12-14 sessions a day, it does sound nuts. But you are doing an amazing job!
I am fine with 4 or 5, so I hope to get down there soon.
They nurse at 8, 11, down for their nap at 1, 4, 6:30 or so, then down for the night at 7:30.
I give them solids at 5:30 or 6, and I was really hoping I could skip their 6:30 nursing session. But they scream and cry until I nurse them. I would love to be able to go out to dinner with the kids and not bring my nursing cover and hover in the bathroom. I am hoping that "dinner" will be enough to get them to bedtime soon.
We've been doing solids for one month now at lunch and dinner and I still haven't dropped a nursing session although we started solids due to a slow down in Vivi's weight gain. I know that's not what you wanted to hear but the good news is that the nursing sessions are starting to get significantly shorter. What used to take 40 minutes now takes 20 or less.
Your boys are a little older, hopefully they can drop a session soon. I would be exhausted too.
I think it just totally depends on the kid. Henry cut down to five sessions around six months. Eleanor has been nursing five times a day almost from the start (and I think I could probably cut her down to four now if I tried).
Have you tried encouraging them to go longer between feeds?
Because we're fancy like that.
