question for ladies with ultrasounds

How did you manage to keep down the liquid for a full bladder. I'm having an awful time with morning sickness! I have an ultrasound for 10:30 tomorrow, so need to be done drinking at 9:30. Any suggestions?

Re: question for ladies with ultrasounds

  • Not sure what you mean...I peed right before the ultrasound and that was fine.

  • I didn't know you had to stop drinking an hour before.  I just drank a ton on the way to my appointment!  I guess you only need the water for the external ultrasound.  She couldn't see a ton doing it that way, so made me empty my bladder and do a vaginal ultrasound instead.  Sorry I don't have any tips!

  • With my first I had a vaginal ultrasound to confirm due date because my bladder was too full to do an abdominal one.  I didn't have the "drink a whole lot first" ultrasound until ~20 weeks with her.

  • With all 3 pregnancies, I have never been told to have a full bladder.  I wouldn't worry too much about it.  Did they say why?

  • Your can call and ask if you can have a vaginal one done instead...you won't need to drink then.

  • The only time I've ever been told to have a full bladder at an ultrasound is when I was a teenager and I was getting checked for ovarian cysts.  A full bladder on a recently pregnant woman with morning sickness to boot seems cruel!  I hope they will do a vaginal one instead.

  • I had the same problem last week for my first u/s. they said empty my bladder and hour and a half before the appointment and to drink 34 ounces of water right after I empty.   I was so uncomfortable it made me feel sick. When i got to the appointment I said how uncomfortable I was and the u/s tech said: "oh well you can empty a little you shouldn't be uncomfortable."  So on Monday when I go for my repeat u/s I am not drinking as much water because obviously it wasn't necessary if she told me i could empty some first! I'd say just drink 10-15 ounces and then have a water bottle and take little sips in the car and once you get there.
