Cloth Diapering

Those who sew their own, what pattern?

What pattern is best? I was going to order a Very Baby pattern... this one in particular. Does anybody have any other recommendations?

Re: Those who sew their own, what pattern?

  • I bought a pattern by Kwik Sew.  But I haven't used it yet...

  • I have the Very Basic AIO pattern. It is OK. I don't think it fits my son particularly well... he falls in the medium size range, but medium diapers are a little short for him in the rise (even though he has a short rise), but HUGE in the waist. I'm now experimenting with a medium/long size and that is fitting a little better -- still huge in the waist, though.

I also don't like that it's a paper pattern. I've traced it on freezer paper rather than cutting it out. But I like PDF patterns better, because then I can just print more copies as needed.

I also have the Darling Diapers Unlimited pattern and the La Di Da pattern. DDU is my favorite -- PDF download, tons of options, VERY clear directions. LDD is great, too, although I don't like it as much as DDU for pocket diapers specifically.

ETA: There are examples of diapers (pockets and fitteds) using all three patterns in my sewing blog. Link in my siggy. Use the tag cloud at the right to filter to just the pattern(s) you want to see.

  • i have the darling diapers pattern, and i really like it.  i like how detailed the instructions are and like that it's a pdf so not only do you get it instantly, but you can print off the multiple sizes and whatnot w/o ruining an 'original' pattern.

she has the newborn pattern free but you don't get the instructions.  if you pay for it, then you get all the sizes and very detailed instructions.  she also tells you how to alter the pattern to make it longer/shorter to better fit your child.  and it covers how to make pockets, covers, and fitteds all from the same pattern.

i've only made one so far, but it fits ds really well.  i plan on using it to make newborn diapers for #2.

  • Thanks for the suggestions! I am a beginner so detailed is KEY lol. The Darling Diapers pattern seems like a lot of bang for your buck too! I'm glad I asked before just buying the VB pattern. I want to make fitteds that resemble GM's etc... obviously it's going to take some practice but I wanted to make sure the pattern was similar.
