AW: Baby Blanket from Wedding Gown (PIP)

When we found out we were expecting, DH and I decided to ask my aunt to make a quilt for our LO, using material from my wedding gown.  I sent her the material, as well as some material from SD's Junior Bridesmaid dress.  It was EXTREMELY difficult to cut apart my gown, but I managed!

 Yesterday, I received the blanket in the mail.  I am IN LOVE with this quilt!  The white pieces are from my gown, and the light blue border was a sash I wore.  The navy blue are pieces from SD's Jr. BM gown.  The rest is random material we bought to add to it.  (Its folded over so you can see the plain light blue back, too.)

I just love it!!

    Wow, it is absolutely gorgeous!!!!  I love it.

    Absolutely beautiful!  I want to make a baptism gown out of my wedding gown but I can't bear to cut it up.  How did you find the nerve to do it?

    Oh my goodness, what strength you had to cut up your gown...and what a BEAUTIFUL result!  You better save the extra material from your gown just in case you need to make another one of these quilts further down the road! =)=)=)

    That is beautiful!  What a great keepsake.

    The dry cleaner's essentially wrecked my wedding gown (cue teary eyes) but another more skilled cleaner was able to salvage a large part of the skirt (plain off-white silk organza with a little alencon lace).  I'd like to have that piece made into a christening blanket for our LO...if I can find someone skilled enough to do it!

    That's beautiful and such a great idea!

    My mom made me a quilt before I was born.  It is one of my most treasured belongings.  I still sleep with it every night and even cut a small piece of it off and pinned it to my petticoat for my wedding (as a gift to my mom).  I hope that your LO cherishes this blanket just as much.
