I highly dislike it. At first I thought it was supposed to be Amos, but apparantly not!

Great guy... unfortunate name.

It's great as a last name, or a nickname for Amy. But I'm not a fan of surnames as first names.

I don't think it is that bad, but I would only use it if it were a family surname.

I like Amos and Amasa, so I like the sound, but am not a fan of using other people's surnames as first names.

All can think of the the walmart type store called Ames that use to be in MA!

There used to be a department store in my town called Ames, so that's all I picture.

Haha - I'm obviously against the norm so far...but I really like it (and I watch the Bachelorette, too I tend to lean more towards unique names though so that could be why. I'm a fan! I would never have thought about it being a nn for Amy...but maybe that's because I haven't had any close enough friends named Amy in my lifetime to call 'Ames'!

It's the name of a city nearby, where Iowa State University is located. I can't think of it as a name for a human.

I thought it was pronounced "aim-us" when I first saw it. I'm just iffy on it.

This is DH's grandpa's name and if we have a son it will be his first name.  It took me a little while to come around to it, but now I love it, and it has meaning to DH so that makes me love it more.  Definitely not a name you hear everyday! I guess I need to start watching the Bachelorette

Yep .  He's very good friends with one of my best friends.  It is funny to see him on the show--he comes off well though!  I'm willing to bet that if you see any expose articles on him, they are true.
