I am starting blood-thinner injections on Thursday for my FET & was given the option to do either Lovenox OR Heparin injections. My NP said Heparin is 2 injections daily & inexpensive while Lovenox was one injection daily & also more expensive than heparin. They opted to put me on heparin since I didn't have an opinion either way.
Any specific reason why you are / have taken heparin vs lovenox or vice versa? Just curious as to which is more commonly used or possibly better!
TIA
Re: Heparin/Lovenox users
I used heparin...the main reason was because my insurance covered it and not lovenox. The downfall is that you do have to do two injections but you just use the small lupron needles so I didn't really mind. It does leave nasty looking bruises but they didn't hurt, it just looked bad.
My RE actually prefers it though because it has a shorter half life so if you start bleeding (which I did A LOT) it is out of your system faster than lovenox. This is why even those who take lovenox usually switch to heparin at 36/37 weeks. Also, it has been around longer so it has had more testing done and it has been shown to be safe in children/babies so somehow that made me feel better about taking it while pregnant.

SAIF/PAIF Welcome
Lots of love and luck to my PAIF/3T/IF Veteran ladies, especially my dear friend Zookie. Congrats to Papps, Teach84 and Starbuck on their little ones.
My RE put me on Heparin because it's cheaper and like mdluv said, it has a shorter half-life than Lovenox, so it doesn't stay in your system as long as Lovenox does. That way, in an emergency, the effects of Heparin could be reversed quickly if need be. OB would switch you to Heparin once you get closer to delivery because of this anyway. Yes, it was no fun injecting 2x/day but it wasn't bad. Good luck!!!!
I use Lovenox. It is one injection per day, my insurance covers it (if I do the generic it is the same price as heparin) and it is what my RE and my reproductive immunologist prefer it for my issues. I have been told that, if I were to get pregnant, I would likely be changed to heparin later in pregnancy.
Good luck!

I'm on lovenox, but that's what my hemo put me on. I was also told like PP that I would be switched as I got close to my due date. I know there is a generic lovenox that came out recently, but luckily my insurance covers lovenox pretty good so I just stuck with it.
Good luck!!
