New to site

Hello All. My Name is Tamekia and I am new to this site... I found out this site by just goggling questions I was having and saw that I?m not alone and that there are other women who have similar situations as me. So here is my story and I hope to make some friends thru this tough time...

I and My hubby married in 05... I have a daughter that is not biologically his born in 04. Her name is Paris and she is now 6 years old and will be turning 7 this July. We started planning to have our son back in 2006, since we didn?t want them to be too far apart... Well I went to the doc's and found out I had cervical cancer and needed to have surgery to get ride of it... I had to get checked every 6 months to be sure that it would not re-appear. Well I was healed by God from that and thought we would be able to have a child right away knowing that I didn?t have any other known problems... But then Years past and we still don?t have our son yet... I found another OBGYN and she took the time to exam me fully... I found out I had endometriosis and that my right Fallopian tube was closed shut due to scare tissue. This news mad me feel like giving up hope... All these years I didn?t even know I had this and still don?t know how I got it. Long story short, I had another surgery in 2010 to remove the endo. They decided to leave my tube as is since we were TTC. So we decided to get my hubby tested and found that he had a very low count and that?s when we begin Clomid 50mg 1st round (April 2011). 2nd Round (May 2011) at 100mg. I am scheduled to test this week but am really nervous... Since on Clomid I have O'ed more that i have ever have... but don?t want to continue to be disappointed either with BFN test results. So this is my story so hopefully I will be giving the hubby good news this Sunday on Father's day if I get a BFP!!!

Blessings!

Welcome to the board.  As many here will ask - are you being properly monitored on clomid?  Because you have one tube closed I'm sure they told you that you need to ovulate on the open side in order for it to work.  Also if you are dealing with MFI (male factor infertility) that IUI or IVF is what's most likely going to work to get you PG.

I'm dealing with MFI with my husband too, we do IUI to get the best sperm past the cervix and as close to the tube as they can so that all it needs to travel is the tube.  You may want to look into Fertility Blend for Men or another vitamin supplement to bring up your husband's count (more sperm = better chances).

Also, I noticed you mentioned a son twice.  I'm sure you realize that there's no telling if you'll have a boy or girl.  And there have been studies that girls are actually slightly more likely with ART (assisted reproductive treatment) because the sperm with x vs. y chromosomes, how fast they swim vs. how long they live.

And finally, I hope after lurking here for a while you will see that an RE (reproductive endo) is best for having trouble TTC.  An OB is good for once you are PG but an RE is specially trained in infertility issues and how best to get you PG.

Sorry such a long response.  But good luck to you and I hope you get your BFP soon!

I hope you are not too disappointed if you get a girl.  Last time I checked God loved little girls as much as little boys.  I have prayed to God for much more important things (like not having a miscarriage or getting pregnant without a doctor's assistance or saving my father-in-law from cancer) but my prayers have not been answered.

Everyone needs to be monitored on clomid, but you especially sincce one tube is closed.  You need to have vaginal ultrasounds of your ovaries to see if you are even ovulating on the right side.

With a low sperm count, you should probably also consider an intra-uterine insemination to help the sperm get to the egg.

You really should be seeing a doctor called a reproductive endocrinologist, because he will give you all the monitoring you require.  OBs might just give you clomid and send you on your way.  And that's how people end up with sextuplets or damaged tubes or don't even know they have no response or are responding on the wrong side.

    Good luck.

    FYI,

If you are taking clomid, you need to be monitored with bloodwork and vaginal ultrasounds at the beginning and middle of the cycle.  The cycle-day 3 u/s is to make sure you have no cysts on your ovaries before beginning clomid.  If you do have a cyst, taking clomid could create a dangerous situation where the cyst enlarges and/or bursts.  The day 3 bloodwork is to make sure you are not pregnant (very bad! on clomid) and to check your FSH and LH levels. The mid-cycle monitoring is to make sure you have not under responded or over responded. If you have not responded, you need to know to change your protocol.  If you over-respond (have too many big follicles), then you are at risk for multiples.  The mid-cycle blood work is to check your estrogen levels, which can determine how many eggs are hiding in your follicles. I wouldn?t want to have to go through a reduction.  I cancelled my first IUI cycle because I had 4 follies, and estrogen showed 4-5 eggs and we were not ready for that risk of multiples at that time. There is a low probability of these risks, but they are bad risks and detecting them with ultrasounds is easy and absolutely necessary.

Also, some doctors say you should not take clomid for more than 6 cycles in your life ? that is because of the risk of ovarian cancer.  Therefore, you should get your husband a semen analysis and you should get an HSG to make sure your tubes are clear, before you start clomid.  You do not want to waste cycles of clomid if you have no chance of getting pregnant anyways.

Also, here are some stories from other ladies who were not monitored.

Thanks for all the do's and donts.. I will be happy with what ever God gives me... And we are being monitored.. Maybe I wasnt clear in my responce.. I cut alot out for the sake of time but we are going to a fertility doc andsince I have been on clomid I have had 3 vaginal U/S and found out how many follicles and all... They also gave me Ovidrel and I am now taking Prostergen Suppositories for the first time this month.. If I get a BFP, then I will go for BW on the 25th for blood work and all... Thank you ladies for your concerns as I am new to this whole fertility issues and my body...

I wish you the best of luck but realize most of the women here are just hoping for a healthy baby.  Praying so much for a son makes me feel bad for your daughter and especially your potential future daughter.

After more than 2 years of fertility treatments, FET did the trick!
IVF March 2012 - BFP! - Severe OHSS = 8 days in the hospital in kidney failure
    No heartbeat at 10w6d
    FET August 27,2012 = BFP!

    It's okay.  Thanks for clarifying.

So, my question then is did you ovulate on your open side this time?  Are you doing timed intercourse or IUI?

You can tell which side you will hopefully O from during your mid-cycle ultrasounds.  What side was your follie during your ultrasound?

Welcome to 3T, I hope your stay here is short.  The other girls have pretty much said everything.  It sounds like you are on the right track.  The only thing I would ask is you said you were being monitored but when are they monitoring you?  You should have a u/s on CD3 to make sure you don't have any cysts and then usually around CD10 depending on when you are taking the Clomid.  Your doctor should be able to tell you which side you are ovulating from when they do that second ultrasound.  Also if you are doing a trigger shot then you should be ovulating every cycle.  Good luck.
