Progesterone Suppositories

I take 200 mg of Progesterone in the form of a compounded suppository once a day before bedtime. About a week ago I noticed when I inserted the supository that I seemed more swollen than before so I just thought that it must be normal and that everything is getting larger down there. Last night I noticed that it wasn't swollen down there anymore and not as hard to get in...is this normal or has anyone noticed anything like this before? I would not have noticed were it not for having to insert the suppository every night.

Re: Progesterone Suppositories

  • I was a little swollen down there with my suppository also.  I was also red, itchy/ burning and a little raw.  I had a bad reaction, to say the least.

I never noticed how hard or easy it was inserting them.

  • I haven't noticed that. However, I have noticed that it causes more leaking and it increased my morning sickness.

  • It's normal. The swelling isn't from the suppositories. It's from the pg. Your blood supply increases and vaginal changes (swelling, discoloration, etc.) are all to be expected and nothing to worry about.
  • I too had been on the progesterone suppositories so felt very aware of how everything was "feeling".  One night, it seems early in week 5, it felt completely different to me.  I FREAKED out and went to the doctor the next day.  To which she replied "feels like a pregnant cervix".  This early on I wouldn't worry to much how it feels.  Mine is still fluctuating. Some days it feels really high, soft and almost "open", and other days it feels firm, low, and closed.

  • My first pregnancy I was on them for 12 weeks and it would often become irrated. It does go away though. I am actually on them again this round! My progesterone is much higer though (64).

  • I began spotting last night about an hour after the progesterone suppository was inserted. I immediately thought the worst but after going to the dr today and having another NT scan it shows that baby's heart is beating at 160bpm, yolk sac and amniotic fluid all look good. Not sure what the spotting/bleeding was all about but doctor said as of today everything looks good. She did say it could have been irritation from the progesterone suppository.
