Changing tables/dressers

What do you gals think of this changing table/dresser? https://www.walmart.com/ip/South-Shore-Changing-Dresser-White/5679269

This is a customer photo of it.

I think I like it. the pictures show it as being just about as tall as the front railing of the crib. I like that it can be used as a dresser later for the child.

We were going to do the traditional changing table with a cabinet from Ikea, but this is about $40 cheaper than those two items would be and I think I like this better because a traditional changing table can't really be used for anything else.

Re: Changing tables/dressers

  • That is very cute! I like it alot!

We have a changing table dresser that came with the bedroom set we bought. Our set also came with a 5 drawer dresser which is great because the baby's rooms has the worlds smallest closet.... it's pathetic. LOL

My DH seems to be concerned about it not being enough room, but the baby's room has a nice sized closet and I have a three-drawer dress inside the closet, too. The only reason I hid it in there is because it's not white. Plus it's nice to have a flat surface inside the closet, too.

  • Not only is that really cute & the best of both worlds with the cubbies & drawers, but you'll be able to use it for a lot longer. We did the same thing thing & bought a dresser with a changing table on top that is removable. I'm glad we will be able to get a lot of use out of it.

  • I like the style with the cubbies and two drawers.  However, the ones I've seen IRL had small drawers and I didn't see how I could make do with just two small drawers in the nursery.  So, I got a full-size 6-drawer dresser (from Ikea) and plan to just put the changing pad on top.
  • I personally am not a fan of dressers with bins that low.  My DD is 1.5 and thinks it's a game to open her dresser everyday and pull all the clothes out onto the floor.  I can only imagine the bins would be easier for her to get into.  Just something to think about, I don't know why I even fold her laundry these days. lol

ETA:  I'd go with the Ikea dresser because the drawers are huge and fit a ton!  I have one for each of my girls and we are getting one for this LO also.

  • We were considering buying this at one point. I had wanted white furniture but my fiance was not a fan of the white so we changed it. I say you should get it!

this is what I was thinking--those bins would be begging to get dumped, so as long as you don't have a problem cleaning that up every day (possibly multiple times) then I say get it--it's definitely cute!

I think as long as you have enough space elsewhere, it's great! It's super cute, but it would not have nearly enough space for us. The baby also has a teeny closet though, so we needed a dresser with more drawers than it seems like you guys do.

    THIS!!!!
My DD dumps every bin and basket she can find in the house (including her massive laundry hamper!). Once your LO gets a little bigger they'll be emptying those bins several times per day, you'll be picking up that stuff repeatedly and wishing that you hadn't got a dresser with bins.

  • I think it's cute! I would read some reviews on the construction of the drawers. Walmart has a tendency to cheap out on their drawers.

  • We are also looking at purchasing a South Shore changing table for the same reasons (price, height, open shelving and drawers)!

We have a South Shore brand dresser from Walmart that we have had for several years and we are very happy with the quality for the price.

Oh, thanks. I'll have to check out the reviews.

And to other posters, thanks for the tips about the bins. I'll have to think that over.
