I only get two .. one at 6/7 weeks for viability and another at 18-20 weeks. Two is better than one but I see lots of woman on forums getting so many .. makes me jealous!
Mr Dr gives 2. One at your first appointment for dating and one at 20 weeks, unless there are complications. With my last pregnancy I was high risk so I got one every week after week 25!
What happened with your last pregnancy?

But, that being said, twin pregnancy's should be monitored more than a singleton one, I'm surprised you only had the one ultrasound with twins.
i was too i didnt even find out i was having more than 1 until 2 weeks before i lost them i had 2 more u/s but they were only to confirm loss heartbeat of b then a
*BFP m/c*BFP b/g twins *S/B 20w *BFP DS A 1-12-12 *BFP m/c *BFP m/c*BFP *It's a boy again* EDD 2-5-14
My doctor gives two, my friends doctor offers 1 but it is optional. She is high risk and gets more but is in the process of getting tested for a genetic disorder. If she is not a carrier she will get no ultrasounds with her future pregnancies.
Due to your previous loss will your OB offer another one? I ended up with 3 (so far) from the office I go to because of my loss. One after confirmed pregnancy to make sure the egg had implanted correctly, one at 8 weeks, and the anatomy scan. If they ever have a hard time finding the heartbeat they will due an ultrasound right then and there on the spot to make sure everything is alright.
My doctor did one in his office at my first OB appt just to get a exact gestational age. I also got a 1st trimester screening where they did the NT check, and then I will have another one at 19 weeks. I always thought that was pretty standard; I had never heard of someone only getting one ultrasound! I'm not sure I would be okay with that.
With your previous loss, I'd look into another practice. Or at the very least, ask your doctor for another. Also, try contacting your local community college. I know mine preforms free u/s on expecting women, so students can practice.
It is standard with my Dr to just have one (18-20 weeks). I had 3 with my DS because the u/s I had at 18weeks didn't show the heart clearly. I got another at 24 weeks for that. Then I had a growth ultrasound at 34 weeks to measure DS.
I am expecting to have just one u/s with this pregnancy unless there are concerns. If you have concerns from your previous pregnancy I would definitely discuss that with your dr.
I lost twins at 23 weeks, and I switched practices because of the way everything went down. The new OB was only going to give me 1 ultrasound but I laid it right out there with my history of loss and being high risk I didn't like that answer. I have had 7 ultrasounds so far to check the progression of my cervix to make sure my water does not break again.
Demand to be seen more, and if your not satified than find another practice that will work with you.
If you've had any major complication, you should be getting mroe and if you aren't, change doctors. My doctor is super proactive. I'm getting one a 7.5 weeks and she actually wanted me to do it sooner but I could not get into the office before then. Did they find out why you lost your little ones before? If they didn't do testing, you are at the wronge doctor's office. I had 2 miscarriages and my doc ran every test in the book to try to ensure I don't have a 3rd. Luckily she did because I have 2 blood clotting disorders so I never would've had a successful pregnancy on my own. Even with my 2nd pregnancy, she had me in the office from the moment I got a bfp to do blood work. I never got past 5 weeks with either one so I never had u/s but I know I would've had way more than 1. Be sure to stand up for yourself! They might tell you insurance won't cover but there are ways to code things so that it will. Good luck!!!

WARNING TALKING ABT PREG LOSS!!!
yes the reason was that both mason and river had blood clots in their cords and mason was taking nutrition from river and 3 days before their hearts stopped my water broke so there was several reasons and yes i had all kinds if blood work done i dont remember details because all test were good but all i can remember was the lab corp tech calling them freeze test i remember i had my thyroids checked
Dr said he saw no reason why i could not have a healthy baby but that doesn't make the thoughts a worries not roll through my head thanks for all your comments though and the lady that posted abt NT scan i had to look that up ive nvr heard of it i didnt get one w the twins and they failed the neural tube blood test
*BFP m/c*BFP b/g twins *S/B 20w *BFP DS A 1-12-12 *BFP m/c *BFP m/c*BFP *It's a boy again* EDD 2-5-14
I would check with your insurance and then switch doctors.
I had a miscarriage at 7 weeks. I'm terrified of it happening again. The doctors told me they wouldn't see me until 9 weeks because that's their policy, because they only do 2 ultrasounds and they can't see that much at 7. I asked them if they really had such a set in stone policy that they never deviated from it, regardless of medical necessity and a woman's obstetrics history. I said I found that very interesting, as a lawyer. Long story short, I'm going in at 7 weeks for my dating u/s. I told them I was happy to pay out of pocket for an extra ultrasound.
Sometimes, dr's offices are just silly. I really can't believe an OB wouldn't give you more ultrasounds considering your history, so I'd try to get to the bottom of it. It could be a payment thing (although frankly, any dr can make an ultrasound medically necessary...)
I think we'll have 1 around 20 weeks. If we choose to, we can have one between 11-13 weeks to check for abnormalities but this one is optional. (I'm not sure if we have to pay extra for this.) Also, she said that on my next visit if we don't hear the heartbeat (due to my uterus position) then we'll do an us. However, I think the one at 20 weeks is the only one that's for sure.

I think it's common to only have one... it's not common that the one u/s you get is at 40 weeks. I find that so odd. Even if you only get one it would be around 20 so they can do the anatomy scan -- that u/s is not for just determing gender. I would switch OBs.
ETA: May I ask how many weeks were you when you lost your twins? I also find it odd that they let you go 3 days with broken waters... I'm no doctor but that does not sound right to me. Again, I would not hesistate in switching OBs.
I think it depends on your doctor and your insurance.
I've already had 2, will have another one around 24 weeks (Mid August) to see the sex, then starting at the beginning of my third trimester I'll have one every 2 weeks, then during the last month/month and a half, I'll get one every week. That's all per the Dr. I go to. He also said if I was high risk it would be more.
I'd look around at other doctors. I don't know where you live, but if you're in the Rhode Island/Massachusetts area OBGYN Associates is amazing. I love them.

I am very jealous too makes me so mad my cousin/neighbor got an U/S every visit and wasnt high risk. I am thinking of going to another OB.
And my last pregnancy my water broke at 20 weeks and my twins had *blood clots in there umbilical cords
* I still can not find another person this has happened to
but thanks
I get one anatomy scan at 18 weeks. This seems to be fairly common and there are others here who only get one as well.
