1st Trimester

Please help...slow heart beat

According to my lmp I am 8 weeks 6 days pregnant with our first. We went for our 1st ultrasoundthis week and I am measuring more like 6-6.5 weeks and the heart rate was at 60bpm, our dr. said it should be closer to 100bpm.  We go back for another ultrasound to see if we progress in size and function.  Dr. definately prepared us for the worst because of size and heart beat, however we are staying positive and are very hopeful.  If I am only 6 weeks, is 60 bpm low? Has anyone ever experienced anything similar to our situation? Please anything will help...

Re: Please help...slow heart beat

  • 60bpm seems slow even for 6.5w, but especially if you are almost 9w. DS's heart rate was 175bpm at 8w4d. I hope everything works out for you.

  • Your date could be off--this happened to my HS friend. She went back yesterday and it was 130 (due 1/30). GL!

  • At 6w 2d our little beans hr was 113bpm!  I was told 90-120 was a good range.  But if your dates are off that could affect a lot too!  When I went back at 9w 2d it went from 113 to 178 so it increased dramatically in just a few weeks!  I believe the heart "just" starts to beat around 5 weeks.

Try to stay positive!!   I wish you the best of luck and I hope all is okay!

  • The heart usually starts to beat at around 6 weeks (5w is extremely early for it) so it'll be low when it just starts to beat.  If you're dating your pregnancy on LMP, you can easily be off.  Most women do not ovulate on CD14.  If you charted and have an actual known O date, then you're much less likely to be off on your dates.  It's also helpful to know when you got your first BFP as if that was late coming and you were testing regularly, that points to a greater possibility that you ovulated late.  GL.

  • We had an emergency ultrasound right at 6 weeks and hb was 96. It jumped up to 148 at our 8 week appt. I would say this is a little low. Thinking and praying that all goes well with your little peanut!

  • That does sound quite low, but I wouldn't give up... At our ultrasound at 7w3d, one baby measured 6w6d, heartrate 138, while the other baby measured 6w3d, heartrate 125. We were quite concerned because of the size variation. However, we just went back for another ultrasound at 9w3d, and both babies were measuring the right dates with heartrates of 168. I'm wondering if maybe it's just too early to hear a clear heartrate, and that the technician didn't just hear your adult heartbeat, since it should be around 60.... There's definitely a possibility that that could happen. Good luck.
