I'm not technically old enough for this board, but I'll be 35 in September! For most of the past 7 years I've been pregnant or breastfeeding, except for a few small gaps. Now that my youngest is weaned (I weaned him about 4 months ago), I feel like my PMS and period symptoms have changed for the worse! I'm wondering if it's just normal changes that happen as you get older?
For example, I used to get ovulation pains for a day or two. Now I get them for 4-5 days, and they can be pretty strong at times. I used to just have mild period cramps, but now they can be really bad for the first day or two, to the point of making me nauseous, and my flow has also gotten extremely heavy in the beginning. Worst of all, I get horrible hot flashes....For the past couple of years I would get them occasionally, but now it's like I get them every day from ovulation to the start of my period. I also feel like I've been moodier than I used to be.
Has anyone else noticed changes like this in their cycle? Should I talk to my doctor or is this normal? Thanks for any advice!
Re: PMS/period symptoms worse as you get older?
I would speak to your doctor regardless of what others say here because every person is different. And I'm sorry you're having issues like that. Can't be fun.
As for me, I didn't start birth control until I WAS 35 (was never in serious relationships before then) so my cycles actually got BETTER after. My only issues were the first few cycles after giving birth to my DS. I had horrible cramps and a heavier flow. But that evened out after a few months--and that is on the pill. I am still using it now (at age 41).
Anyway, I'd call your gynecologist and go from there. Hopefully whatever is going on can be easily resolved.
