Hey everyone, I am a first time mom here and i was wondering if it is normal for my 3 week old to be awake so much. I am used to her sleeping alot during the day (2-3 hrs between feedings) and then having an hour or so wake up period at night along with some cluster feeding. The last couple days she seems to be awake constantly. Sometimes she fusses a little but I am wondering if there is a reason she isn't sleeping as much? Any advice/thoughts would be appreciated.
TIA
Re: 3 week old & daytime naps
I was going to make a thread about this myself. My daughter stopped sleeping at all during the day at about 2wks. The naps got shorter until they became non existent. She might doze after a feeding but it only lasts about 20-30min and is a very light sleep. She refused to go down in her crib or bassinet for a nap.
I tried a carrier out in desperation at about 6 weeks but she would wake up immediately after I took her out. Then I started swaddling her again. Swaddling works, she'll take about an hour nap at a time but again, I cant move her anywhere. She has to stay where she falls asleep after feeding. It is making me crazy because I can't get any chores done during the day or take a nap myself.
We dont have a daytime routine, although we do have one for night. During the day we feed her when she is hungry and will play with her when she is awake and interested. I've gotten into the habit of swaddling her around noon (I usually look for her sleepy+hungry cues to best judge the right time rather than the clock), giving her a bottle and letting her doze off.
Any suggestions on how to get her to nap during the day? I dont want her to sleep all day, I would just like one good solid nap so I can get some housework done or nap myself.
i just assumed as they got older they would be awake more, we sort of run out of things to do after like an hour or two though so its been interesting.
