Detroit Babies

Married ladies

Our beloved baby was not planned, but our wedding is. we have booked a venue and are going along with our wedding as 2.29.12. baby is due 11.27.11. so roughly 3 months before the wedding. Here's my question...

Should i buy my dress ASAP or wait until after baby? i'm leaning towards ASAP for the obvious reasons of being able to have everything in order. I have lost 25lbs since being pregnant ( i'm plus size, the Dr isn't concerned for the weight loss). So some of my questions are: how much of a size difference were you after LO was born? if i got my dress in my "normal size" (pre baby weight loss), i could alter it up to 2 size, which could potentially be 3 sizes bigger then i am now, would that be enough room?

I'm kinda really stressing about this :( or should i wait, buy a dress off the rack in jan after LO and i'm more on a "normal" size (for the time being) and alter it accordingly. but i just worry what if i cant find one...

So what's your opinion.

Re: Married ladies

  • I'd buy it after the baby.  Your body shape is going to change so much that a style could look totally different on you after.

  • I would maybe wait until after baby.  Or at least until the end of your pregnancy to see what kind of weight gain/loss you have.  After I had my son even though I was the same weight a few months after I wasnt the same size.

  • Thanks ladies, i appreciate the feedback. i'm just SO nervous about waiting until so close to the wedding. But i know it'll probably be my best option.

I have not yet gone dress shopping at all, does there seem to be a wide variety of off the rack dresses?

  • I got my wedding dress at David's Bridal and had a lot of options. There's always mixed reviews about them, but I didn't have any problems.

  • Wait if you can.  I am down to my normal weight, but my body is not the same as it was pre-baby. Plus if you BF, your boobs will be huge, and probably won't fit properly after the baby comes.

  • I agree with the other ladies to wait until after you have your baby - my hips are wider than they were prior to pregnancy and while they're shifting back - there is NO WAY I would be able to fit into my wedding dress right now! haha.

  • I had my LO five months ago and I have one pair of prepregancy jeans that fit, I am still 15lbs over my prepreg weight. Most close fit abuot two sizes bigger than before. But everyone is different. I wish you luck with your LO and I hope your wedding turns out wonderfull.

Buying the dress early will probably help with some stress, just be carefull not to buy one to small. You never know what will happen.

This is what i was thinking. I'm super stressed about FINDING a dress so close to the wedding date. i cant imagine i'll want to shop/feel up to it the first month after baby.

i'm plus size, so i wouldn't buy a super formed fit dress anyway... i'll slowly start to search around and see what happens...

    thanks ladies!!

  • Wait as long as possible (post baby)

I bought a black off the rack dress for a wedding I was a BM in literally the weekend before because it was 6 weeks PP with my daughter.

  • Definitely after.  I am also plus sized and lost a lot of weight while pregnant.  After I delivered I was abut 40 lbs down from the weight I was when I got pregnant when I weighed myself after first getting home.  I gained about 10 lbs of that back after just eating normally and rehydrating after having been in the hospital.  However, my body is waaay different now than it was before.  I would totally wait until after, you will be cutting it a little close if you have to order a dress, but as long as you get right on it, it should be fine.

     Good Luck!

This exactly.  I have been my pre-pregnancy weight for awhile and a lot of my clothes still fit funny.

  • I'd probably wait. I was in a wedding 5 months after I had a baby and was forced to by my dress when I was 20 weeks.  I had lost a lot of weight before I got pregnant and hadn't started showing much at the time I bought the dress. I was nervous that I'd put on a ton of weight at the end (had done so with my first) so I bought what I hoped would be way big and knew they could alter it down 4 sizes. By the time the wedding came, I sadly didn't need any alterations :(  Which in the long run, saved me money, but made me awfully depressed. The dress looked much better on me when I was lighter.
