Hi, Ladies! I know I haven't posted much at all, but it was much easier for me to just lurk while we were researching and waiting. Now that I'm home with my baby girl, I just wanted to share our story.
DH and I decided to adopt last summer after learning that we couldn't have biological children (even with treatment). Our plans were put on hold while DH went to Afghanistan for 6 months. While he was gone, we did a lot of research and decided to pursue domestic infant adoption privately through an attorney. We did everything we could for our home study without him here, and I went a little crazy waiting for him to get home.
Right before DH came home, we learned that we would be moving to another state at the end of the summer. Since we really wanted to adopt in our current state, we decided to pursue an agency placement too to increase our odds.
DH got home in the middle of March, and we our home study completed by the middle of April. We got everything sent to the agency on April 20th and got word from them the next day that there was a potential situation for a baby girl due June 3rd. We said we were interested, and they said they would put our profile "in the stack." When I asked what that meant, they said there were 35 families interested. Yikes!
We kind of forgot about that situation since so many people were interested. I actually had started looking at agencies and home study requirements in our future state to make sure we could get the ball rolling quickly once we got there.
On May 5th, the agency called and said that the birth parents wanted to talk to us on the phone. I was super nervous and cautiously excited. They called us early in the morning on Mother's Day, and we were notified that afternoon that we were officially matched! It was the best Mother's Day gift ever.
Our baby girl decided to come a little early, and she was born on May 27th. She was perfectly healthy, and the signing happened the next day without a hitch. We brought her home on the 29th, and life has been pure joy since then. We've adjusted to having a newborn really well, and we're still in awe over how quickly our lives changed for the better.
The craziest part of the story is that I had decided to quit my job to be a stay-at-home mom. Since I was in the military, I had to give 6 months notice, so it wasn't easy to plan ahead. Back in September, I just pulled the trigger and randomly chose May 26th as my last day. God is so great and brought us our sweet baby the day after my last day of work. I just know that He had this wonderful plan for us all along.
Now that I'm home with our little girl, I'll probably be posting more. I feel like I already know you all from lurking, but I'm excited to join in.
