So - question for a friend:
Her little guy wets through his diapers and soaks his clothes in 30 minutes. She's tried fitteds mostly, so far (but she forgot to put a cover on them).
Will having a cover on the fitteds make them last a lot longer than 30min. on her little guy? She was pretty discouraged with cloth diapers, so far. I told her it gets better. How long can she reasonably expect a baby of about 5 weeks old to wear a cloth diaper without leakage?
I can't remember that well.......
Re: Newborn + cloth diapers = leaking?
Yes...a cover will solve her problems. I'm using Kissaluvs fitteds on my newborn with a cover and I have only had leaks once.
A
A cover is definitely a must...
If I remember correctly, I changed LO every hr to hr 1/2 when she was that little. She has always been a heavy wetter.
I have DS in GMD infant fitteds (with a cover) and usually change him every 90 min - 2 hours. At night, we're using AIO (mum's bums or ecobumz) and changing every 2-3 hours.
He only leaks if I push it on the night changes, or if we leave some diaper poking out a cover.

She has covers! She just didn't know that's what they were for:)
I would tell her to use a cover over her fitteds. Typically NB fitteds are not made with that many absorbent layers because NBs eat/pee more frequently requiring frequent changes. I changed her about every 1.5-2 hours on average *I think* but when I had to I just changed her more frequently. It gets better though!
DD is 9 months old and I only started going coverless with a fitted because she's constantly moving. When she was a NB and was not mobile there is no way I would go coverless.
