Question for moms who are due or have had holiday babies

Hello ladies,

I am in the process of interviewing doulas. Has anyone had trouble finding available doulas?  I think I am starting the process pretty early. I have contacted 4 so far and one didn't call back, the other said she doesn't know if she can take me because of my due date and one said she won't be available from 8am to 8pm on Thanksgiving Day if I go into labor during those hours. I kind of expected to maybe have to pay extra for a doula to be on call during a holiday period, but geesh it seems no one want to touch me with a ten foot pole! Just curious to see what other people's experiences were/are especially for those who have due dates around the big holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Then it got me worried about whether or not my OB will be the one delivering the baby, which then caused major insomnia last night!Cry

  • what is your due date?

  • I'm due 11-19, so Thanksgiving is a definite possible delivery date. My midwives haven't mentioned any problem with it. I'm sure you'll be able to find one that doesn't care.
  • DD2 was due right after Thanksgiving. My favorite mid-wife was on-call the entire holiday weekend, but the baby ended up being late anyway. I didn't have a doula, so I don't know anything about that. Just don't let the doctors push you for an induction because of the holiday. I've heard of that nonsense happening before. I wouldn't worry about it though, you could go early and end up with a Halloween baby instead. :-)
