earliest anatomy scan

whats the earliest anatomy scan you can get? i am terrified after last time (baby had brain and heart defects) and want to know that this LO is healthy ASAP...even if i have to go back for more views. Do you think that 15-16 weeks is too early?

i just dont know how pushy to be with the high risk office. but i am certainly not waiting until 20 weeks.

The earliest I have heard is 16 weeks.  I think you have every reason to be a little "pushy"  just in a nice way.

We had ours at 17 weeks. Maybe just ask them and see what they say. I had mine done at high risks office too.....they actually picked the date so I was shocked. I am sure all is well, but I understand you being worried! Big Hug friend!

We had our anatomy scan which was a level 2 ultra sound at 16 weeks due to an elevated risk that showed up in my blood work. They were able to see everything they needed. They did do a repeat scan at 22 weeks just to make sure that they didn't miss anything since at that point she was more developed. I would definitely push for an early scan, they can always repeat if they don't see everything.

Do you plan to get an NT scan?  Those are usually done around 12-13 weeks and could give you a little piece of mind until your a/s?  At the high risk office that I go to they won't do them earlier than 18 weeks.  GL

I have a history of an ONTD that resulted in a late loss.  my OB recommended the NT scan so we could have an u/s to ease my mind and he said that i'll have the level two u/s at 16 weeks.  i'm currently 13 weeks and cannot wait for this u/s!! 

since i have twins now, i had the NT scan done at 11 wks, 5 days just in case i needed to reschedule if they couldnt see both twins. i had the u/s tech checking the spinal cord and head, but she couldnt really see much.

I am having mine at 15w2d.  My OB knows how anxious I am about everything.  He said if we can't see all that we need to we will repeat it in a couple of weeks.  i would definitely talk to your doctor about getting it done as soon as possible.  I completely understand your anxiety.  ((hugs))

I think most places do them between 18-22 weeks.  Mine was originally scheduled for 19w6d, but I had some blood test results come back really worrisome for Downs.  I ended up having mine at 17w3d.  They were able to see everything they needed to, although the kidney shots weren't great.

I think at 15-16 weeks it might be too early. 

I would talk to your doc, explain your history, and see what s/he can do.  Maybe even if they can't do the 'official' a/s until the 18-22 window they can do another u/s in the 15-17 week window somehow, maybe at least something to help ease your mind a little until the big scan.  Perhaps your history alone would be reason enough for a medically necessary u/s then. 

ETA: I just saw you're only 9 weeks.  You might want to ask about the NT Scan.  Its done between 11w-13w6d. I don't think they'd be able to pick up on a brain/heart defect that early, but maybe it would help ease your mind some.

I've heard 16 weeks.  Mine is scheduled for Thursday, when I'll be 16w6d.
