I'm back at work for my first day. It is really hard.

A co-worker who doesn't have kids came by and said "I just had to leave my new kitten at home today, I was so sad, it's so hard, isn't it?".

She's such a sweet girl... but the comparison?

I can fully admit to having done this to my friends before I had LO.  They would talk about their LO's and I would talk about my dogs.  I did always preface with "I'm not comparing your kid to my dog... but..."  If you don't have LO's, puppies and kitties feel like what you imagine it must feel like to have one.  And it's really the only way some people can relate, you know? 

I hope you day isn't too bad.  It does get easier, I promise!  Good luck!

Sounds like my sister.  She treats her cat as if he were her son.  When she goes somewhere overnight or all day, she talks about how bad she feels for leaving 'Monkey' at home.  Ha.
