Hey Ladies, for those of you who saved the top tier of your wedding cake. How long before your anniversary did you take it out to defrost?

Re: NBR: Frozen wedding cake

  • We had ours for our 1st anniversary. Honestly...it wasn't as yummy. I think we each had a few bites and that was it

  • I would refrigerate overnight bc the moisture will make beads of liquid all over it and then take it out and place it onthe counter in the morning to have that evening.
  • Good question. Our 1st anniversary is next month and I was wondering the same thing!

I think this is what we did too... ours actually was still really yummy... every year I consider ordering a bday cake for DH from the bakery who made it because it's so good, but don't want to spend that money! Maybe I'll get a cake for our next anniversary (the 5th) especially since we'll have a 1 month old and won't be able to make our yearly trip.

    This.

Plus, ours was really good.  Almost as good as the day we got married.

  • I'm a cheater cheater cake eater. I didn't have room in the freezer so we ate ours at the 3 month mark which fell just before V-day this year. When it moved from my mom's freezer to our fridge, it thawed and I served it cold from the fridge. But I like my cake that way. DH opted to heat a few slices with a damp paper towel in the microwave which helps re-moisten it. a pat of butter could be used to get that moisture back in a cake too. :) Hope that helps. And I hope your cake is yummmmy.

We took it out that morning with the plan to try it that night. It was disgusting and I spit it out in the sink. :(

  • Oh gosh... that was over 6 years ago for us.  I'm pretty sure I just left it in the fridge until it defrosted.  Surprisingly it saved pretty well.
  • We didn't save a layer because I didn't want to eat year old cake, didn't think it would taste good. Our cake lady was supposed to make us a new cake for our anniversary;( Just called her and it turns out her number has been disconnected and so has her email. I knew she was having family problems awhile back didn't think she would shut down the business. Man her cakes were awesome....now got to find a new cake lady.

  • I don't have an answer to your question because DH got ours out of the freezer and thawed it out the night we got back from our honeymoon. Stick out tongue I wasn't going to refreeze a half eaten top tier so I grabbed a fork and helped him finish it off.
  • Thanks Ladies! :)

  • well...we accidentally forgot about it and ate it at like 1 year 3 months - we took it out of deep freeze the night before but put it in the refrigerator and then 2 hours or so prior to eating we look it out of the fridge

My mom did this for us. We stopped by and picked it up on our way home and ate it that night and it was REALLY good!!! If it is wrapped right before freezing they still taste good :)

  • LOL!  I never thought of keeping the cake for a year.  We shared ours with the other passengers on the airplane the next day on the way to our honeymoon.
