So I went to see an LC yesterday because I felt like BFing was going good but could go better. Given that I ended up EPing with Scott, I want to do everything I can with Nate to try and make BFing from the tap work (b/c I will NOT EP again).
The LC was great and checked on how things were going. Good latch-check! Good milk supply--check! Good positioning--check! Good milk flow--here's the problem. Why in the hidy ho did no one in the hospital ever tell me that after you sandwich your breast tissue into his mouth to help him latch you are supposed to LET GO?!?!
Yep, I've been holding my boob in the sandwich position during feedings thinking I was helping him stay latched and I was squeezing some thinking I was "helping" him get milk. In reality I was blocking the flow of milk! I had been worried about how much milk was left in my breasts after feedings. Now there isn't nearly as much left behind after feedings.
DUH!! Feeling kind of stupid but also SO very glad that little Nate is getting more milk at feedings. BFing is actually easier now--I can do things with my other hand like drink some water, eat a snack, read a book, turn the TV channel. So glad I went to see an LC!
PSA: After you sandwich your boob and get your LO to latch--LET GO, sit back, and relax. ![]()
