SLW - Carseat noise thingy for baby?

Stacie - my girlfriend has a screaming 1-month old she has to take with her on daily 45-minute commutes to work (her mom watches the baby at the office).

What is the carseat thing you got to help Sophie deal with the car rides?

  • We have a few things.  The main one is the Travel Sleep Sheep.  The extra white noise helps her go to sleep.  It was more effective when she was younger but it still works occasionally now.  Now that she is older, we make sure to have multiple toys in easy reach that we can give her to keep her occupied.  When those run out, it's time for Toddler Sing a Long songs (kill me, please).  The higher pitched the voice, the more she likes it.  And she REALLY likes it if we sing too.  Seriously... torture.

We did discover this weekend that she will actually watch Gavin's DVD player.  Not my favorite thing for a 6 month old, but honestly, whatever works.  We hooked up the second screen on the middle back headrest so she can see it and that buys us a little time too.  Honestly, if the kid would learn to take a paci, I think she would be so much happier in the car.  But at this point, I don't see that happening so we just try to get through.  The good thing for us is that we carpool so there is always someone to help soothe her.  I really don't know that I could handle it if I was driving alone everyday :-(

  • we had a pissy, colicy baby who hated the car and radio static became the sweetest noise to us ever (annoying static wins over a screaming baby every time).
