Car seats in the heat

Okay, silly question...It has started getting really hot here in the NE -

Do you put anything over your LO's car seat to keep it from getting so hot in the car when you are in the store?  I came out of Target and had to wait awhile before putting DS in because his seat was so warm. (had the windows cracked, but car was stifling hot and I normally would let the car air out, but the seat seemed extra warm even after awhile)

Towels?  Reflector things?   I feel like I should know this, but I have never heard anyone mention it.  Thanks!!!!!

  • We have a cheesy reflector thing for the front window, and pull-down shades for the side windows in the back.  I'm not saying it does a lot of good, we haven't had to deal with real heat yet.  :)

  • If the seat has a fabric cover you should be OK. The issue is the buckles but mine had a fabric piece that went behind it and that kept the baby's skin safe.

  • Tomorrow is our first 90 degree day so this hasn't been an issue yet... but when I remember, I have a blanket to throw over his seat.   We also use a big reflective sun shade in the front window.

  • My sister has this cool feature on her Honda odyssey. It's called remote start. By the time we reach her car the inside is already cooling down Gotta love technology. Her dh is a mechanical engineer. He loves all thing tech We joke that we married the wrong men my dh and sis are a good match temperament wise. But thankfully neither one of us is attracted to the others spouse. Her dh is SO not my type. Sorry that was totally off topic

  • Others have good advice as far as removable shades and towels and things. I've never had an issue, so maybe that's why I never mention it. I live in a warm climate mostly year round, so our car has tinted windows and ac is a must. I specifically purchased Victor's car seat to have a fabric color of a lighter shade as to not attract the sun. I make sure he's wearing shorts over his onsies so that his legs don't touch the buckle and he has those cute little velcro strap covers for the seat. If you're having issues, do what you must and keep a towel in the car for hot days. GL

I've been considering getting this for ages. Good to know it works. (LOVE that catalog.)
