Is it weird to have a ceiling fan over a dining table?

The fixture over our dining table is seriously outdated. I really want to change it out. A ceiling fan would be awesome since we don't have central AC (we only have 1 mobile unit and it's in DS room) but I'm wondering if that would be weird? I don't think I've ever seen it done before.

It's fairly common in SoCal. So, depends on if you think they're weird or not.

We have one over our dining room table.  We also don't have central AC and dinner time in the summer would be unbearable (or served nekkid) without it.

I've had one before that never got used, I thought it was weird. But we've always had central AC, so idk.

We have one. I'd actually prefer if it was a chandelier because it seems more formal but I don't think the fan looks weird. We even have central AC but we've used it several times since we moved in on days when it's warmer but we don't want to turn the ac on. I don't think it's weird at all to put one in.

i don't think it's weird at all.  i wish we had one bc our dining room is hot.

Honestly, I always thought it was kinda weird.  But I wish I would've put fans in the kitchen/dining room.  It's where we hang out most of the day, and we don't have central a/c.  And H won't leave a regular fan alone... I wonder if DH wouldn't mind switching the light fixtures each season change...

We have one and I think it's silly because our living room and dining area are connected, and we have no lighting in the living room.  I'd rather they'd put the fan in the living room since we're in it much longer.  But it is what it is, and some day we will probably take the fan and put it in the living room and put a chandelier in its place. 

Also, we have dual cooling, which means swamp (forced air) cooling and central A/C, so the fan there doesn't get used often.  We do have fans in the bedrooms though!

We have one over our dining room table and love it. It provides a lot of light for dinner time, projects, etc. We didn't put it there purposely, it just happened to be the most central part of our downstairs (which is really open).
