So we have the handheld Summer Infant video monitor and the screen froze for the second time in a week during the night. DD's room is on the other side of the house so twice this week we woke up to a screaming baby but we look at the monitor and it shows her laying there asleep. I've heard of this happening but I was just wondering for those of you that have had this happen, what did you do? I've contacted Summer Infant and they asked for all the numbers on the back of the monitor so I provided them with that information last Tuesday and have yet to hear anything back. My husband is calling them this morning. Is it a waste of my time trying to deal with them? Should I just buy a new monitor or will this happen with other brands? TIA!

I've heard it's a regular problem with video monitors because of an interruption in the signal.
I have the summer infant one and have had it happen a few times, but only during day time naps, so we didn't call or anything. I do know there was a big recall not too long back but that was because the batteries were exploding in the handheld.
I emailed them months ago and still haven't heard back. We've also had problems with it not turning on occasionally. We did a battery pull and haven't had any issues since. Their customer service isn't great. I tried to call them but the wait time was over an hour and I gave up after 10 minutes.
Thanks Ladies! I guess most of you are in the same boat as me. I wouldn't be so concerned about it if Lundyn's room was closer but we literally can not hear her cry from our bedroom unless she is screaming. There is no telling how long she was laying there both of those nights crying before we heard her.
When I talked to customer service she told me that just because we have a monitor does not mean that we should not still check on our child throughout the night. I'm sorry, I thought that's what a monitor was for but I guess I was wrong.
If I get anywhere with them I will let you ladies know. Thanks for the feedback!

Just an FYI with Summer, their customer service has friendly reps but their product support is beyond horrible. Our rechargeable monitor battery wouldn't hold more than a 45min charge before dying and we couldn't find/purchase the matching battery anywhere; so we contacted them for a replacement under warranty. It took us over 2 mos to see the new battery. They kept shifting the shipment date back and explained their manufacturer was in China and is apparently very unreliable for production. I think the company means well, but their products are really shoddy and I would go with a different brand if we have any other issues.

Did they ever send you a new battery? This is the issue I am having with my monitor and when I hit the button on the top of the handheld unit the picture does not always come on. Thanks!!!

Re: Summer infant video monitor freezing ?
We are dealing with the same thing. Right down to emailing the info and not hearing back.
I'm considering just buying another monitor b/c they obviously aren't willing to help.

I hope it doesn't happen again for you!
We've had it happen on ours twice. We just have to pop the battery out and put it back in; that re-sets it.
I guess I just see it as a minor glitch (as with anything electronic). Since its only happened twice in 8 months, I am just going to deal with it.
Mine has never froze, but it has picked up someone else's signal and showed me a baby that was not mine!
If you have luck getting in touch with them, please let me know.
