Crazy how different my kids are

I had the little kids out in the pool all afternoon. They both had on 50spf sunblock that was applied liberally several times. DS#2 who has his Dad's Italian skin has a tan already and DD who has my pale Irish skin still managed to get burnt, just a bit, but burnt nonetheless. Ugh. Aside from sending them outside in long sleeve shirts and pants, any suggestions to help protect their skin a little better? Will the stronger spf sunscreens make a difference? I've heard that once you hit 50spf, the higher numbers don't make that huge of a difference. Maybe a brand that you swear by? fwiw, I used Water babies.

Re: Crazy how different my kids are

  • Try a different sunscreen.  I burn very easy and can burn through different sunscreens as well.  I also like the rash guards for my kids which provides extra coverage.

  • I use rash guards for Ian and physical sunblock- I can honestly say that I do not recall a single time the kid has ever burned (of course now that I say that the poor kid will burn). He does tend to tan though- like me. And The Teen, his sister, she is very pale and is more likely to burn (so, I too have very different kids!)

  • We use rash gaurds and lots of sunscreen. I try to manipulate them into shade. This works for ds1 who will dig in the sand forever so I strategically place umbrella etc. Ds2 is never still though and more likely to get pink.
