Hi- I have another preeclampsia question...
I had severe preeclampsia with my 1st pregnancy which resulted in my son being born at 32 weeks 2days via emergency c-section.
We are currently trying for baby #2, and I have a question for those that have been pregnant after having PE. I know that every medical practice is different, but in your general experience, what is the difference in care between your first pregnancy and now your high risk pregnancy? Do you have more frequent appointments? What about more ultrasounds? Just curious what the precautions are from the doctors end of things now that you are being watched for this specific condition.
TIA!
Re: Pregnancy after preeclampsia
i just had baby #1 due to pre E. i have chronic high BP even though im super healthy, its just a genetic thing. my doctor monitored me closely this time around as a high risk pregnancy(extra appts, bloodwork, urine tests, ultrasounds etc) she told me NEXT time they know medication wise what doesnt work for me so they wont try those meds. she also said i would be watched closely again. she suggested i see just her at that practice vs seeing different people. she says its better for the continuation of care because she will remember things week to week and know me. she also knows what happened from memory the 1st time around(not just my chart) she said i could go and be followed by a high risk doctor but they are typically "consult" doctors. u see whoever is there, they dont "know" u or take the time to talk with you etc. she suggested its better if i see her and then she consults with the high risk as needed or if i need some special and transfer me to them once admitted(like this time) if things go downhill again. it stinks i wont have my "own doctor" there for the delivery, although if she has been following me and has "rights" at that hospital maybe she would be there. she also said that i have a VERY high risk of this happening again. she said she saw the pre-E coming for several weeks and it go bad VERY early. so its likely i will have it again. she said that women who get Pre E later on in the pregnancy and usually a 1st pregnancy and dont have other risk factors(like my high BP) dont have as high of a risk getting it a 2nd time.
but each pregnancy is different.
nothing... there was question of pulling me out of work sooner or me coming for more frequent visits if necessary. but really, with my first they screened each visit... a b/p check, urine dipstick, weight.
you're your best monitor and advocate.... watch for the s/s, keep up with your prenatal care, try to maintain a healthy diet and exercise.
good luck. my 2nd pg was much easier than my first! I hope the same for you.
