Cloth Diapering

so this is the problem with AIOs, huh?

I prepped my non-organic/natural half of my stash yesterday morning - AIOs, pockets, inserts, and wipes. I dried them for an hour and noticed my AIOs were still damp inside, so I hung them on a drying rack in the kitchen next to the window and turned the fan on.

Well, a day later and they're still damp. I guess I'll throw them back in the dryer for a while.

So, once I'm into my laundry routine with baby, would you just dry them all for a longer time in the dryer, or do you give the AIOs a little extra time on their own?

  • I don't use AIOs for this reason, though I know there are plenty on here who do.  The problem with drying in the dryer all the time, though, is that it is hard on your diapers, and they will start to deteriorate much faster than if you line dry them.  I'd try to minimize time in the dryer as much as possible.

Yea, that's what I was thinking. I suppose I'll let them dry on the rack for today, too, and see how they are this evening. Can you flip them inside out, or is that bad for the diaper too? I just wonder what kind of impact this will have on my regular laundry routine.

I'm not sold on AIOs (well, I'm not really sold on anything yet since baby isn't here!) but I got some mostly for MH and my aunt, who will be watching the baby a few days a week. I figure they're the easiest for people nervous/unsure of CDing.

  • If you are still building your stash try some pocket diapers. They are just as easy for day care and such. I just pre stuff mine when they come out of the laundry so all day care had to do is put them on just like an aio or a sposie. But since the inserts come out to wash they seem to get cleaner and they dry faster. I love the BG pockets but there are probably other good ones (people keep taking about sunbaby which are cheap).

  • Get some wool dryer balls. It will help cut down your drying time.

This.  Also I flip my BG aio' s inside out and they dry a lot faster.  Not sure if you can do that with yours.

  • wool dryer balls help a lot- and I don't flip them inside out because I do not want to damage the PUL- I do dry them a little longer and then if they are still damp I just hang them-

  • The only AIOs I've used are Lil Joeys.  Since they're so tiny, they dry faster than a larger sized AIO.  I hung them to dry.

I line dry everything overnight and air fluff them for 20 minutes.  But yeah, if you dry them in the dryer it might not be a good idea.

  • I dry outside when it's warm and sunny and my Elementals get super dry. I loathe pockets so I have them for DH and MIL.

  • Thanks ladies - I suppose I could try line drying outside when the weather permits, but being in NJ, when it's not freezing cold, it's usually really humid (though this weekend is looking great).

I have wool dryer balls already - 6 of them - and I do have a number of pockets in my stash, probably more than AIOs. I guess there's no other magic tricks to get them to dry faster.  :)
