Baby Names

Bo or Beau?

After months and months of trying to find a boy name for our team green baby, DH threw out the idea of Bo. MN would be Alexander. Beau is ranked more popular than Bo, so which one is the better choice?

Bo Alexander

Beau Alexander

  • Neither. To me you're either giving your kid the name "Handsome" or "Cleetus". Either way, I wouldn't do it. If you *really* have to use one, then Beau. Hopefully most people will be to ignorant to realise Stick out tongue

  • I did have a cocker spaniel named Bo when I was about 3. haha. But it doesnt remind me of that so its no big deal to me.

  • I love Beau.  And being from the south as well, I think it's a very nice and classical name.  Bo seems like a nickname.

This is exactly what I was thinking.

  • Yeah, gotta go with Beau. It will probably get misspelled a bit more, but Bo seems a little... hick-ish. (And of course, there's Little Bo Peep, lol). Beau vs. Bo is kinda like the difference between soft southern charm, and southern inbreed who can't spell.

(And good lord folks, if you can't say something nice/mildly supportive, zip it already. Baby naming is hard enough without people telling you they hate your favorite name. All the "well if I MUST pick one" is just rude. No one's forcing you to comment)

  • I like Beau. Bo just reminds me of B.O. (which my friends and I sometimes just call Bo... as in, "it smells like Bo in this subway").

  • Beau is what I prefer; it's often a short form of Beauregard, which means something like "easy on the eyes" in French ("beau" by itself meaning the masculine form of "beautiful").

You're missing it because no one said it was wrong, I said that I wouldn't do it. And it's not the fact it means handsome, it's that it *is* the word handsome. In French.

Also, you're a total b!tch. This board is about potential names for babies. It's a chance to get commentary on a name before you give it to a child so that you can make an informed decision. Once you've named your child there's no need for commentary. I certainly didn't ask for your opinion about my child's name.

Uhhh, Ruby - did you forget that you are on a message board?  You named your kid that, get used to it.  I have been on these boards for YEARS, my kids names get ridiculed - but who cares?  Let it go!

You'd think that someone who gave their kid a MN as "bad azz" as Danger would have thicker skin.
