Pregnant after a Loss

Any Chicago area mamas?

Hi ladies,

Here's the scoop, my good friend from grad school is coming up to visit this weekend and texted me this morning asking if there was anything I want from Chicago.  I totally blanked!!  We were just there, and brought back some Garrett's popcorn.

I could go for some patties at the Carribean American Bakery in Roger's Park (but that is really out of his way so I'm not going to ask him to do that).

What are some quintesential "Chicago" things that I am forgetting? (It's a 4 hr drive from Chi to me).

  • How about some Portillo's Italian Beef or hot dogs?  Or a deep-dish pizza (Giordano's, Gino's, Lou Malnati's...)?  4 hours isn't TOO long, and I think a lot of places sell travel-friendly packages of their food that you can purchase and make/heat up yourself later.  Hopefully you'll get some fun treats!!

  • Giordanos does sound tempting!  mmmm.

Portillos would be good if hotdogs weren't one of my "trigger foods!" hahaha.

  • Corruption, high taxes...hmmm, what else can we send your way...

I'd go for more popcorn.  But that's just me.  :)

Haha, I am very glad I moved north... but I have to say things aren't much better up here!! When DH and I were delayed flying out of Chicago we had Garrett's popcorn and Eli's cheesecake.. I was such a happy kid!

  • Garrett's popcorn would definitely be on my list too!  But as someone else mentioned...pizza.  I prefer Lou Malnati's though.  Portillo's beef too!

Those are things we get everytime we are in the city (we live about 40 min away in Indiana.)

  • Is there someone that makes a good Giardiniera that you can't get where you are?  We have friends that lived for a while in Chicago and that's often what they miss most, though you can make some yourself.  We did this for them last year and they loved it.
