We've been so crazy with planning her party and getting ready for her recital and all that I haven't even thought of what to get B for her Bday next week.
Any ideas?
Please don't ask what she's into. If I could clone myself as her entertainment, that's all she'd need.
Re: What did you get DD for 5th Bday?
DD's big gift was a Nintendo DS--pink, of course--and a couple games. She also got other odds and ends--books, some clothes, craft stuff.
These from seller tiddlywinks on etsy (someone on here shared the link actually):

She loves both, especially the first. They are really well made and completely adorable.
Twinkle Toes/Pillow Pet & something else- from us/ they were the hot items at the time
Ipod- from my mom
For her 6th birthday she wants the Tangled castle where repunzel lives and handheld nintendo or a itouch....i figured I'd get one and my mother get the other.
Jumping in here because my Brooke turns 5 in June also. 5 isn't too young for the DS? And what exactly does a 5 year old do with an ipod? No seriously, I'm clueless because I only have a shuffle and can not use DH's nano to save my life.
I need ideas too though - I'm at a loss.
DD#2 turned 5 this past December. She got some princess roller skates (the kind that slip over your shoe), Ipod shuffle, puzzles, crayola craft items and lots of barbies and barbie clothes/accessories.
We thought DD#2 could handle a DS since she was always playing on DH's DSi so we had given her a DS a few months before turning 5 and she broke it. We thought it was something wrong with the DS itself so we gave her DD#1's old one and she broke that one too from pressing too much on the screen and buttons. So I guess it depends on the child if they are ready for it.
DD has a shuffle. Her PreK 3-4 program had a "shuffle" grant. They recorded all the songs they were learning at PreK about letters and days of the week etc. The intent was to sweet talk her teacher from last year to put them on her new shuffle--teacher left that school though (too bad, awesome teacher!).
Now she use's it for the "Tangled" soundtrack and songs she likes--some kids bop. We have a boom box type thing that you can plug it into and it plays regualarly. My kids sometimes like to have dance contest (and I spot light with a flashlight : ) DS1 loves his CARs sound track.
I don't know about the DS as we don't have one currently but my kids (the older two) love my ipad. I was thinking the itouch would be good for travel and I wouldn't have to give up my ipad : ) They kids have have games on my ipad like fruit ninja, princess story book, McQueen storybook, cake maker, etc
S - One thing B loves is music, I got her a CD player with Mic for Xmas and she loves that thing. She got an icarly camera last year...don't ask where it went.
I just don't know
She's really into build a bear but its the biggest waste of $$$ in the universe.
When my niece turned 5, I got her the sparkliest, blingyest, girliest craft kit I could find. She loved that thing, and made three different crafts out of it.
What about a jewelry box?
I've been cruising craigslist for a free headboard (or I'll pick one up at the thrift store), and I'll paint it. DD2 got one for her 3rd birthday and DD1 has been drooling over it. We'll be moving in the next couple months, so I really would prefer something she will USE instead of more crap to put in the toybox.
I'm also going to fix up an old jewelry box and get her some "beautiful" jewelry--not the plastic kids stuff, but old lady junky costume jewelry. The bigger, the better.
Does she have any Polly Pocket toys? My girls got the Roller Coaster and LOVE it. Heck, my 6yr old son loves it too. They also got the Littlest Pet Shop Adoption Center and play with it well. (they just got both 2 days ago)
They also got a scooter and a new bike each. They LOVE their scooters. They've never had one so they were super excited to get them.
For their party I saved a few gifts which is a Ballerina Barbie playset and a Ballerina Doll from Melissa & Doug.

My kids really were not into the Leapster either, I think it's because you had to constantly switch out games.
The best investment by far was the ipod touch I just bought them to share. DH comes home from work and we give one kid his and the other the extra one. We can have 30 minutes of uninterrupted sex. Heaven! There are so many free games to download so it keeps them interested.
I also got DD a pair of good skates, crafts and bathing suits.
Honestly? DD didn't even know what it was when she got it. She loves it though! She has a Zhu Zhu game where you feed them, give them love, exercise them and take them through mazes to unlock new hamsters and courses. She also has a Crayola game to "color" things, Cooking Mama, and a drawing game. She also figured out the camera (and all of the editing you can do with an image) all on her own.
She doesn't play it every day; but its something to do. It was especially great on a plane ride and great when she wakes up early for something quiet to do. I don't throw it at her and ask her to play and she doesn't "over-" play it to the point where she's seditary either.
To the OP, DD friggin loves Squinkies, too. I have no idea why--her teacher and I suspect its because kids that age like to collect things. She got Squinkies for her 5th b-day. She plays with them a lot.
Isabelle will be 5 at the end of the summer and right now she loves her MobiGo, Barbies, baking with me and painting ceramics. She just recieved a kit of clay fairies and princess's that she can paint and she loves it. She also got a kit that she can make snowglobes with figurines in them that she can't wait to use and a bead kit to make watches and bracelets. She would probably love some sort of mp3 player but considering she can't read yet I am not about to have to read every song title to her and I am not ready to have her going around the house with headphones in and not listening to me, she doesn't listen to me enough already!
