Leaking PF Question

I've been using PFs more during the day and have had really good results except when DS has a poopsplosion we sometimes get a small leak right in the middle of the back of the PF.  It's usually only a small amount but it's enough to get on the cover.  Is there anything I can do to prevent this?  TIA!

Re: Leaking PF Question

  • The straight answer is not really - but feel good knowing that if you were using disposables (as we were at that age) that it would be a massive poopsplosion that would make it up to his neck.

You can try to keep the rise of the diaper higher on his back so that there's more coverage or you can fold the prefolds extra length down in the back so if forms a sort of pocket that will help to catch any blowouts.

  • Oh yes, we used a few disposables (maybe 5 or so) on a vacation a few weeks ago and had much bigger messes than with the PF!  I'm going to try to fold the PF down in the back but it's a little hard to do on a squirming baby!
  • Could it be time for the next larger size?  According to the bumkins website, leaking legs means a too-large prefold and leaking where yours are means a too-small one.  We've been having the same poop leak (right in the back center) at night, and I'm squeezing my 16-lb baby into a diaper for up to 15 lbs. (waiting for a new shipment).
  • Good point, Mrs.H!  I actually just ordered a dozen of the next size and am waiting for them to come in...we'll see if that helps out!
