So sad

It was just announced on the news that one of the grade schools that I attended is closing.  When I went there, it was in an old, three story building.  They tore that building down and built a new one around ten years ago.  I hope the "new" building doesn't just sit empty.  One of my old classmates is a teacher there and is probably losing her job

All this news of school closings and teachers losing jobs makes me feel super secure as I earn my degree in education...not.

Re: So sad

  • dude0 that happened to MY school too! its sad!

I think you may have a better shot when you're done, though- not only will you have extra experience (you've been subbing for a long time, yeah?) but you'll be more mature, and really- you're just the sort of person that people WANT teaching their kids.

I wouldn't let that worry you just yet. you're already a better candidate than many people.

    I vote you IN!

  • Thanks for the vote of confidence, EBB!  I do have a little over three years of subbing experience, so I hope that it counts for something.

I have 1.5 years until I graduate.  Surely things will be better by then, right?  Right?!?  :)

  • Glad you are not graduating now.  Here-we are getting cut teachers like crazy.  I feel sorry for anyone trying to get a job right now because they probably couldn't buy one.  That being said-surely by the time you graduate it will be better.  Otherwise our kids are going to be in classes of 30+.  Just amazes me that they will pay college football coaches millions but they don't have enough money to keep elementary schools fully staffed.
