DH and I had our meeting with the RE last Friday, and he was also resistant about giving me back my Met.
For those who don't remember my backstory, I've been struggling with PCOS symptoms and stupid-azz small town doctors who feel that Jesus should heal my PCOS if I'm meant to have another baby. Not cool, since in the meantime, I'm dealing with effed up blood sugar and etc.
The RE said that "ultimately it would be (my) decision" but that he thought I should try something called D-Chiro-Inositol before going back on Met. Mentioned it's an OTC herb or something. Just based on price tag and based on the fact that I don't like this RE as a person (He's the only game in town though), I'm leaning strongly towards Metformin.
Also, the RE kind of got under my skin by making some comments about my weight - he said he'd really prefer I be thinner before treating me with Met, because "You'll never lose the extra weight after your second child". (And yes, he did say this in front of my husband!) I'm 130 lbs and 5'3. Yeah, I was 120 before I got PG, but we're not talking about morbid obesity! Also, he mentioned something about "being tired of people with eating disorders" coming to him for help getting pregnant, and thinking Met would make them thinner. Dude, you just basically told my size 4/6 azz that I'm overweight - it's your fault of your patients have eating disorders.
I don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater, so if anyone's had experience with DCI, I love to hear about it.
I am so frustrated though - I have a documented problem, instead of wanting me to "go through another year of trying, and see how bad the PCOS symptoms get" before I earn my Metformin back, just give me the freaking drug that I never should've been taken off in the first place, and give ME back the control of MY body and reproductive life!!!
Re: D-Chiro-Inositol? Advice/Vent
I know this is not what you are asking, but I say RUN, don't walk, to a new RE. Yours sounds unprofessional at best. I'd rather make a few hour drive than deal with that kind of ignorance. I know there is a clinic in Chicago that sees long distance clients - they have phone based consults (I'm assuming they have your lab work to reference) and accomodate patients who come to town for a week to complete each treatment cycle.

Maybe there is another option closer to you - maybe a 1-2 hour drive? GL!
