Anyone have a Dyson? (NMR obviously)

We just purchased a Dyson DC33 that is for all floors.  We have hardwood throughout our whole house but area rugs in most rooms.  I have read mixed reviews on using a Dyson on area rugs.  I tried it out and it seemed to pick up a lot of the fibers from the rug, but the old handheld Dirt Devil I used to have did as well.  I'm just worried either it'll take too many fibers out of the rug or ruin the brush/belt on the vacuum.  The area rugs we have our fairly nice, thick ones.

Just thought I'd see if anyone had a Dyson - if so, are you happy with it?  Do you use it on area rugs with no problem?  Thanks.

  • Hi!

I'm a vacuum fanatic.  I love, love, love, love my purple animal Dyson Vac (DC19 maybe?).  I mostly have carpets at my new house here, but at my old townhouse, our main floor was wood with area rugs.  I thought it worked GREAT on area rugs, as long as they're not the "scooty" kind.  Also, some dirt can still sift to the bottom of the rug and collect on the floor.

    Hope that helps a little.

Thanks for your reply!  I don't know if your Dyson has a carpet/hard floor switch, but if so, which did you use on your area rugs?  I tried with both and definitely got a lot more fibers with the carpet setting, but felt it picked up more that way.  Thanks again!

I have an option to turn off the the bristles.  I like it better on for the area rugs, maybe I'm just neurotic at the expense of good rugs, but I feel better about it and all the stuff it picks up.

Ditto. I turn off the brush though on the rugs.
  • DH had a dyson that he got about 5 yrs ago, and we used it up until recently. our area rugs were not getting as clean as we would like with the brushes off and we were afraid to turn them on for fear it would ruin the carpet, so we got the SHARK now. it's the newer one. the SHARK navigator. its got a pet hook up to it and everything. i LOVE it. it's really light weight, it comes apart so you can vacuum your stairs it has a ton of attachments for different things, and it was only $160. it puts my Dyson to shame. and the SHARK has a bare floor setting, a carpet setting, a high carpet setting. and the bare floor setting the bristles are off obviously. and it picks up every last speck of dirt off that carpet. and it moves just like the dyson ball does. so all in all, i prefer my SHARK to my old Dyson. but other MoM's seem to like it, its just my Personal preference.
