I always see pictures of babies without a cover. How long can they go without one?

Til the pee soaks thru!  That depends on the thickness of the diaper, the type of fabric it's made from, how heavily your baby wets, and whether you're just playing in the house or if the baby is sitting - compression makes the wetness wick through faster.
