Questions about the NT Scan

I apologize in advance because I know this has been discussed before.

Was your 11-14 week NT Scan covered by your insurance? I remember in my initial appt with the nurse she said I should call my health insurance and make sure they cover it.

Also, did most of you do the combined blood screening with the NT Scan to get more definitive results?

Did you go to a special lab to get the NT scan done?

I'm going to call my ob office later this afternoon but I just wanted to get as much info I could before I called.

Thanks.

Re: Questions about the NT Scan

  • I am going to call my insurance company later today to ask if they cover it or not.

  • I just found a post from a few days ago that gave me my answers... So you can ignore this question

    Thx

  • Mine was covered because it is genetic testing.  I just called and asked what genetic testing they covered (some will ask for the billing code which you can get from your ob's office).  And yes I got a little finger prick along with mine!  Mine was all done at my ob's office, but they have someone contracted from an ultrasound company that works in the office so I am lucky.  Good luck!
  • We had ours done at our normal ultrasound place, but they gave me the Ultrascreen test kit before hand. I did the blood test at home and mailed it off a week before the u/s. The day of the u/s, a genetecist pulled us in to discuss all the results once the report was done. My insurance covers all maternity appointments and diagnostics 100% all the time, so this was no different. The only issue I ran into was when I photocopied my insurance card for the mailed off blood test, it wasn't clear enough and they sent me a bill telling me to resend the card info. That wasn't a big deal; just extra work. I'd look at your schedule of benefits for your insurance to see what their coverage is for diagnostics or whatever. That should give you an idea. Anything my doc orders is covered for me.
