What do you hate about kids shows?

I'd love to hear random musings about kids shows. What drives you crazy? Characters or voices you loathe?

  • Little Einsteins - It drives me insane when they choose to ignore the three dimensional nature of reality. Go around the stupid cloud music note coaster or whatever! They also seem to land a lot and then have to navigate their way on foot through the forest or maze or whatever. For crying out loud, you have a rocket SHIP! Keep flying to wherever you want to go and just always go super fast instead of waiting until the last minute. Seems like poor planning =P

Max and Ruby - Where the frick are their parents? Why do they try to make it out like Ruby being so damn bossy all the time is a good thing? And they never make a good highlight out of Max actually having all the solutions. Max is either a criminal mastermind or serial killer in the making. I just know it.

Disney's Cinderella - She's straight up schizophrenic. Or really high. Really. She is a poor judge of character as she seems to still see good in her "family" when they're pure evil. She thinks the animals talk to her and puts clothes on mice! There's a scene where she's cleaning the floor and there's bubbles of her floating everywhere. A little too trippy for my tastes. The overriding parochial theme of the king saying the son must marry and make grandbabies *gag* Cinderella then gets married and that's the end of the fairytale. Abby loves this stupid movie. Tell me I'm not rotting her little brain with a false concept of "happily ever after". Love at first sight? Maybe the prince is a douchebag and that's why he hasn't gotten married yet!

Yo Gabba Gabba - That sh!t is wack. All I gots to say about that. Emily cried.

  • The voices, the voices, the voices!

The Cat in the Hat- I want to shoot that cat.

Sid the Science Kid- There's one girl whose voice quivers like she's struck with some 19th century female malady. Hate her!

Dora the Explorer- The Map. Oh my dear baby Jesus, the Map's voice makes me want to pour battery acid into my ears.

    Totally!

I tell the girls that The Little Mermaid is a cautionary tale about what happens when you give up your voice and try to modify your body for a man. Not sure they give a rat's a$$, but I try...

  • Goofy and Pluto are both dogs, yet Goofy walks on 2 legs, speaks and wears clothes. Meanwhile, Pluto walks on all 4's, wears only a collar and barks. I mean, really, WTF? (I think kim777 posted something about this as well at one point).

The author left Ruby and Max's parents out to focus on the siblings solving their problems together. Or at least that's what I've read. Personally, I prefer to believe that their parents are out getting drunk all night and then sleeping it off all day the next day, which is why Grandma and Bunny Scout Leader come over all the time to check on them. Really though, Max needs speech therapy some kind of bad.

  • I adore kid's shows.  The only movies that make me cry anymore are Pixar and DH and I were more excited about Jakob when The Last Airbender came out.  I think Spongebob is hilarious, creative and witty.  Olivia, Yo Gabba Gabba, Bubble Guppies....creative geniuses.

    However.

I can't stand Little Bill.  Or Franklin.  I hate shows that only have perfect families with perfect parents who never lose their tempers, who always have the answers and kids who always learn a lesson.  Hate.  It.

Sid the Science Kid is annoying.

I don't like shows based solely on education.  I'm not trying to pawn off TV as preschool.  Its entertainment and a babysitter.  Little Einsteins, pretty much anything off the Disney channel.  Can't stand it.

And I've always thought there was something going on between Pooh and Piglet...

Ditto. I can't stand Little Bill or Franklin either. I'm also irrationally bothered by the fact that Franklin has an actual non-animal name but his friends are all named Bear, Beaver, etc.

My complaint is that anything Meredith sees on Olivia, she thinks she HAS to do too. Like have an international day at school or have a lemonade stand and restaurant in the front yard, or be a nature photographer.

Oh the NAMES!  That always drove me nuts with Franklin, too.  And Beaver is an annoying, know it all girl.  aaarrrgghghh I hate her.

But I love Little Bear.  I think its cute and it awesome for quiet time.

  • I hate Elmo.  I can't stand the way he talks about himself in third person.

I detest Little Bear, makes me want to shoot the tv.  I like Franklin --I've also commented to the boys about "Why does Franklin get a name and his friends don't?"-- but I also like the books.  I hate Little Bill, that show sucksass.

I hate how flucking gigantic Dora's eyes are and how everyfuckingperson on that show has their mouth open at all times.  And why do they have to YELL all the damn time?!?!

I don't like YGG, it's more annoying than entertaining.  Thankfully my kids don't like it either.  The boys like Curious George and I have no problems with it at all.  And they like Handy Manny, which I like too.

Oh, my niece loves Olivia and I hate that show b/c Olivia is a spoiled little brat.  So annoying.

  • I HATE Dino Dan. He's obnoxious and interacts with dinosaurs no one else sees. What do his friends think? "Yeahhh, buddy... I see the dinosaur egg..."Confused

I like all the other Nick, Jr. shows except Wubzy and Olivia. Ughh.

    I loooooooove YGG.

Mom to an almost 4 y/o and an almost 2 y/o. In process of growing our family through adoption.
  • Olivia - that girl needs some discipline. She is bossy and changes her mind a 100 times (like on the international day) and her parents just let her get away with it.  She also is spoiled b/c she's always the one getting to do everything fun (like feed the dolphins at the aquarium)

Wonder Pets - CANNOT stand the duck that sounds like Cindy Brady!  That shows drives me bonkers

Sid the Science Kid - I actually really like that his parents are interracial.  But his male friend at school has some obvious learning issues.  And how come Sid gets to determine the curriculum each day and the teacher's just like "cool, I can make a science experiment about weather and pull a song out of my a$$ to go along with it."

Dinosaur Train - if the dinosaurs created a time tunnel...how the heck did they get themselves killed off?
