Hi everyone!

I had a "The doctor would like to discuss your labs in person" appointment on Monday that very quickly morphed into "You're having the baby today" appointment. Turns out, I had severe pre-e. [:/]

I delivered Corinne Avery via emergency c section (under general anthe.) at 31w1d on Monday 5/16. She weighed 2lbs, 3 oz and was 15 inches long. I got to see her for the first time on Tuesday. She's small but precious. She is off the CPAP and breathing normal air for now.

I don't really know what to expect regarding the NICU/preemie/etc experience, so I'll be lurking around these parts, hoping to learn from your expertise  I was pretty much told to expect her to stay in the NICU until she reaches a GA of around 38 weeks.

And because I just boarded the "ZOMG I just had a baby AW!!" boat...here's a pic:

She is precious. Congrats. As for how long she will stay in the NICU, depends on her and how well she copes. My boys where born at 31 weeks. Baby A weighed 2lbs 4oz and Baby B was 3lbs 2 oz. They where born on 4/7/2011 and 1 came home Tuesday before Mothers Day and the other 1 week later. I have them both home now and they are doing great, The NICU gets hard to deal with at times. You just have to take it 1 day at a time. Best of luck to you and I hope you have your angel home in no time!

Hey Mama!  Hugs to you.  I've been thinking of you a lot.  E-mail me if you need to!  It sounds like Corrine is doing awesome.  Fingers,  toes, and eyeballs crossed that she keeps it up and lives up the to "super nicu girl" standards the nicu nurses are always talking about. 

Also, I don't know how "into" writing stuff down you are.  But I made a caringbridge site for Gabe.  I use it to communicate with family and friends so I don't have to repeat every story 103005099043039 times.  But, the journal feature has been awesome for me.  Very cathartic.  I write down all the news of the day there.  It is public (you can share the link with people), so that may not appeal to you.  But, my goal is to write it in every day and then have the entire site bound into a book (you can print books from their site) so I don't forget anything that happened.

congrats, she is adorable and I love the name. Like others said, it's hard but so worth it when that day comes to take them home. There will be ups and downs. Hopefully more good days than bad. My boys were born at almost 31 weeks and were there for 6 weeks and 7 weeks. It felt like forever and was so hard. But they are home and healthy now and before you know it, your sweet girl will be too. She already looks like a strong little girl.

Congrats on yoru early arrival!!!  What a cutie   I also had severe pre-e and went to a regular doc appt only to be sent to the hospital and c-section within 2 hours...  I can relate since I almost crapped my pants when they said you're having surgery now!  Here's hoping your nicu stay will be short and uneventful!!!  You'll get the hang of the nicu in no time and info will start flying quickly if it hasn't already.
