What do I do?

My sister in law is supposed to come over tomorrow to help with the nursery. My niece was sick all day yesterday vomiting and she would be coming too. I am already dehydrated (have had to go to the doctor 3 times for pain and pressure due to this) and I am worried that I will end up catching it too. The doctor told me yesterday if I can't get enough fluids in they will have to put me in the hospital. Do I still let them come? I am so thankful for the help and don't want to hurt anyones feelings but I am worried. I want to do what is best for me and my baby. Isn't the stomach flu contagious for a few days? Help...how do I say no? I realize this may sound stupid to some people but I tend to be a people pleaser and never want to upset anyone. Thanks!

  • I personally wouldn't risk it. If you don't want to hurt her feelings just tell you you don't feel up to doing it and try to schedule a day next week when your niece isn't sick.

  • I would tell them not to come even if I wasn't PG... A sick kid should be home in bed. I bet if you call it off, your SIL will be relieved she doesn't have to come help while her kid is sick.

Umm... tell your SIL that while you appreciate the offer, you don't want to get sick. Period. I'm sure she will understand. Stomach flu = germs = stay the heck home!

I highly doubt your niece feels up to leaving the house... she should be taking it easy, too.

    Feel better & drink up!

  • She says that my niece feels fine today but I don't want to chance it. Sometimes I wish I didn't have a problem telling people exactly how I feel. I get so annoyed with myself....it shouldn't be difficult. I am a wimp. lol!

  • No way would they be coming to my house!  I would certainly hope that your own sister-in-law would understand.

You're just gonna have to put your foot down, for the sake of your own health and your baby's.

"I appreciate that you are willing to come over & help with the nursery but I don't want to expose myself to the flu at this point. Perhaps we can reschedule for a different day when <insert niece's name> is feeling better."
