NER: PPD experience?

I was just wondering if any of you lovely ladies have experience with postpartum depression. I started depression meds in my 20th week and have been great ever since. After giving birth, I felt like I was floating on air - not even slight baby blues. However, in the last 2 weeks, I've been getting that "feeling" again. The littlest things set me off and I will go all day long without eating (the reason I went on meds to begin with). The main thing that makes me wonder if it's not ppd is the fact that I have NO problems caring for DD. That still makes me insanely happy - my problem is not caring for/about my DH. He is not coping well with having a baby (even though he was the one that wanted the baby) and is not really taking part in caring for her. Since I'm SAH, that's not too big a deal but I worry it's starting to cause bigger problems. Any suggestions, advice, experience??

Re: NER: PPD experience?

  • yes, i have ppd.  i had the blues and i knew something was up before my 6w checkup.  i started meds then and things have gotten better.  i've switched meds a few times.  i had no problem taking care of the baby, but i had OCD type thoughts and a lot of anxiety.  going to a PPD support group at my local hospital really helped.  the women who go there all have different experiences and difficulties and we can share coping strategies.  i was kinda embarassed to go at first but it has been the biggest help.  they also help with ideas for your relationship with your DH; he is more than likely welcome to come to a group like that too.  ask around at your local hospitals or google to see if you can find one near you.

  • Yes, I've have it, too. Meds definitely helped, and dh and I struggle with it, too. The thing for me that has helped the most is concentrating on whatever I'm having a problem with. For example, when it is with being inconsiderate of dh I do everything I can to be nice and do extra things for him which has helped a ton.
  • Thanks, ladies! I have an appointment to discuss my meds in December but I think I will call to have it moved up.
