the idea seems like god's gift to the mom of a mobile baby but my BRU only sells like 2, and you never hear about ppl using them anymore. My friends who had babies in the recent past didn't use them at all.

 

So whats your opinion on them?

that's why I used my pnp for 80% of the time.  I would put Jake in there with a few toys while I showered, or outside in the yard when we were hanging out out there.  No need for a playpen and a pnp in my mind.

Agree with PnP.  I'll just use the PnP in situations where I don't want LO to be able to get into stuff.

We plan to get a pnp that we can use at our parent's house/traveling for a safe spot for the babe to sleep in and for the reason you stated above at our house. I think they are great for moms with mobile babies -- it will be nice to have 5 minutes to shower!

I would not buy a pnp and a separate playpen, though.

I'll be getting one. I have a 2 year old dalmatian that have never been around an infant and it seems like all baby items (swings, bouncy things ect..) all sit too low to the ground where the dog will want to play. So this way I can know my little one is safe when I go to shower and other things.

OP, I do get where you are coming from since the playpens I remember growing up were bigger than the PNPs are now.  My cousin has mobile, connecting gates that somehow all attach and contain the baby in a particular area.  Our living room isn't that big so I haven't really looked into it.

Yea PnPs are just so small.  I like the mobile gate idea.  we have a pretty large living room.  I  was just so surprised.

DH and I got a pnp for LO. Any friends that we know who have had a baby in the last 2 years has used a pnp, mostly for the bassinet option. I can't wait to use the heck out of ours!

Late in the game here, but I have a PNP for DS and I barely used it.  I only recommend if you plan to travel in the first year or so.  Those were the only times I actually used it.  When he was awake and I needed to do something I either used the swing or the exersaucer.  If I wanted to put him down for a nap, I just put him in the crib.  I got a play yard when DS grew out of the exersaucer and swing.  I know other people who use them a lot, but they travel a lot as well.
