I thought it was very interesting listening to George Macones (and not just because I thought his last name sounded like meconium :-)...Overall, I think everyone presented their positions well and it really is about informed consent and conversations. I'm happy I got to catch the whole thing during my lunch hour. Thanks for the reminder!

You are welcome. I was actually pretty impressed with the show. I wish the show would have been longer than an hour though. And I really wish the ACOG would have elaborated more on their percieved differences between home birth vs accredited birthing center births (assuming the same midwives attend).

He was pretty vague about that, wasn't he? I thought it was great that one of the midwives said that there isn't anything at her birth center that she wouldn't have at a home birth. I think that speaks volumes to the reluctance to say that there might not be a true difference between home vs. birth center (inattached to a hospital) and the only true difference is location.
I do feel the Karen Carr case was a poor decision all around but was happy to hear that all who were on that show yesterday felt that a low risk, uneventful pregnancy, healthy mom could have a successful homebirth, if everything goes ok (of course). I don't like the ACOG falling back on the Wax study...total copout but whatever...you can lead them to water, right?
Re: Birthcenters v. Hospitals now on NPR (kojo's show @ 12)
