Sooooooooo tired of hearing teachers complain about having 13 to 20 teaching days left in the school year. They are just SO tired and SO over working.
Cry me a river! I'm working until July 26th! Argh.
Really teachers, thank you for what you do and all that (because there is no way in heck I'd want your job...but really, can you stop bragging?) ![]()
I get it...you are a teacher...you have summers off. Pregnant in the summer= yes I am jealous. You win this round. YOU WIN!!!
Re: I hate teachers (vent)
The rest of us work all summer. I'd be irritated too.
After having several family members, including my Dad for 30 years as an El Ed teacher, & friends as teachers, I know how crazy hard they work during the school year...so I am always happy for them that they get this break to re-charge so they can deal w/ the next generation of kids! Guess I might be in the minority but once you have family or close friends as teachers, IMO, it changes your view!
I hear you, there. I see how my son;s teacher puts in extra hours for no extra pay. Comes in early leaves hours late just to accommodate parents for impromptu conferences, etc. Then going home and still grading papers or making lesson plans. I know she works well over her "8 hour day". I am sure the hours she puts in are equivalent to a whole year of 8 hour days
Every year about this time, I get really jealous of teachers and their summers off. And then I remember that 9 months out of the year, they deal with whiny young kids, hormonal teenagers or smart*ss young adults and suddenly I'm not so jealous of their jobs.
But this year, it would be awfully nice to not have to get all dressed up for work everyday between now and EDD.
I'm glad someone was able to read my OP the way it was meant to be read...and not as a *yawn* another debate on teacher pay and how hard they work. I never said they didn't work hard or didn't deserve to get summers off...I'm just saying I'm jealous!
Let me start by saying that I know OP's post was in jest . . . and I LOVE being a teacher.
Teachers are under-appreciated, underpaid, and over worked. I know VERY FEW teachers who do not work during the summer. I have always considered it silly and irresponsible to take summers off until we have kids. This will be my first summer not working because LO is on his way. Actually, I am working for the first 3 weeks of the summer before he gets here.
While I can understand the jealousy factor when it comes to snow days and summer vacation, remember that dedicated teachers take work home, stay at work late, attend school functions, get treated poorly by students and their parents, and still love their jobs. Also - teachers don't "get summers off". They are contracted for 180(some odd) days of the year.
Like PP said - if your "boss" was a room full or hormonal teenagers you would likely countdown to summer vacation as well.
WOW...both of you did not read my post at all. This wasn't a dig on teachers or what they are paid or if they deserve the time off at ALL. I never said they didn't work hard or work extra AT ALL. Teachers work very hard and I know lots of my friends put in a lot more than the standard 8 hours a day for frankly...a really crappy amount of pay. I love teachers. Except for the next two weeks. For now I hate them and their countdowns to having a few months off!
Why do people like you always troll around making a very simple post seem like someone is demonizing something? I honestly was just trying to say that I'm super jealous of teachers this time of year. I remember being so excited for summer break when i was a kid...it must be fun to have a job that you still get to have that excitement for summer! Especially when you are in your third trimester!
Oh well...you can't please everyone.
LOL thank you for being able to tell the difference between jest and seriousness!
Enjoy your summer!
Did you read beyond the title of this post? It doesn't really seem as if you did.
I am a teacher and I totally understand that you are jealous (I would be too
) But I think the problem some people are having is with your title of your post. I have to admit that it shocked me (into reading actually) but after I read your post I understood. So no worries if some people dont know how to FINISH reading a post they shouldnt be on here!
BTW we have 2 weeks and 4 1/2 days left
))))) just to let you know lol
I'll admit, the OP made me laugh and I work for a high school (but get paid $40k less than our teachers do). I'm just grateful that we're having a summer baby since I'll be off work and H won't be in the busy season at his job. Had we been looking at a birth anytime between October and February and we would have been hurting.
